The second one is def worth it.
Notice that often output power isnt all that interesting.
A proper antenna like a grid or yagi is what gets you some far away stable connections.
Both chipsets seem good enough , atheros beats almost anything.
I suggest you read some feedback on the chips and seek user experience.
Myself I have a bunch of alpha's and most of them just arnt stable, get hot or whatever.

Iam not claiming that all of them are.
Money is not really an issue so I dont really care much for trying.
Just make sure you are able to return broken ones, I returned 2 after dying.
Great for wifi cracking though.

Ubiquiti makes some killer adapters, those often cost a bit more though.
As for atheros , the ath9 and 8 driver support native mon mode and injection 95% , I love them.

I figured since they both have the same chipset which is pretty *nix compatible then it wouldn't matter which one. I'll most likely get the more expensive one after reading some reviews. Still not sure.

EDIT: Why is the second one more worth it? Just more powerful? I'm looking at specs for the two, and they both seem to have the same 5dBi antenna, they are both on the same frequency, they both have the same chipset, so what's the difference besides price?

The expensive one is 802.11n while the atheros ar9271 (cheaper ) is 802.11n/g/b.
The expensive one is 91dBm@HT20 power while cheaper ar92... one is 75dbm.
The cheaper one has 2.4~2.4835GHz fequency while expensive one has 2.412~2.483 GHz

If I were you I would choose the lesser expensive one as it is 1/4th the price and has more frequency range - but then I'm a beginner so I wouldn't know much....

Is 24.97$ expensive? anyway, I'm no expert in these things, but since both have the same transfer rate and db power, I see no difference.

It's expensive when you are poor. I ended up going with the cheaper one because they are pretty much the same.
