I forgot to add, is it just me, or does windows RAM usage grow a couple of hundred MB's every version? Not to mention the stupid layout. I mean, the old start menu was acceptable, but the one in win 8 is just stupid. And who uses App stores on PC's, anyway?
I was under the impression that it was =< the amount of RAM from previous versions. I haven't looked that up though. Not that it really matters anyhow, considering your mid-range computer ships with more RAM than your average user is going to ever need.
RE: People who use app stores - again, as was mentioned in posts above, this stuff is marketed towards the vast majority of the population. The majority of the population definitely uses app stores and iTunes. I can attest to this based both off of my experience working in computer sales at Best Buy/Futureshop, as well as from just looking at my immediate family.
Generally, these operating systems aren't geared towards the people who are on this website. For the people who are
not on this website, a lot of the features are perfect. Just like OSX, the new Windows is for our grandparents, our parents, and our families that could all care less about 'computers' as a tool to do whatever they want, and really just want a computer to do the things they've been told it can; go on Facebook, watch YouTube/Netflix, check email, and in specialized cases play some (not too graphically demanding) games, do video/photo editing and/or design/digital painting.
We can say what we want about how one OS is terrible and another is superior, but in the end it all comes down to the user. I don't want my grandparents to try learning Arch, I'll just recommend they get a Mac and be done with it.
All that being said, yes, I've always thought the tile menu was a stupid layout too. lol
