I hear all you guys saying read, but if i don't understand what im reading how would that help me?  Also it would be nice if someone gave me an example of what i should be reading did you guys mean guides on hacking, or stuff on say routers or w/e im trying to learn about.
Also im learning Visual basics, and once i finish that i think ill move onto Java
But do i really need to learn those before i learn C?
By the way im 14, im good with computers when it comes to trouble shooting all that basic stuff you would get from someone at geek squad but i want to expand my knowledge to programming and hacking.

Just start with something, anything at all e.g. download webmatrix and build a website, look at the code. Let that lead you somewhere else. There is no "this is where you start, this is where you finish" You type in e.g. "proxy" find out what that is and let it lead you  somewhere else. That's my 2 cents worth. By the way, i agree with everything said so far.
Happy new year

Please dont double post, and learn to write. Tho I do agree on your last quote. Just start with something, something YOU WANT to do. A project, a game. Whatever, just enjoy what you are doing. And let it lead you in any direction.

@noob, I disagree. I put my hacker mentality into every day things. School, work, food, gaming, relaxing and so forth. Its not all about virtual things.

Hacking is about mindset.
Looking at things with a deeper understanding, using the rules against themselve.
I have seen hackers in many fields apart from computers.

You should lay off the movies for a while.

OP, Hacking is an art. It's simply doing things that someone hasn't done or thought of before, depending on your needs. It's all about creativity. ie. Installing a 300 HP engine into, say, Mr.bean's car.

So my question is what exactly is hacking and whats the process(how do you do it)...the process in movies you always see some dude typing on a computer and magically just breaks through into say a security camera. I know its probably not even close to what you would do in real life.
Also how do you get started??  I know it takes baby steps but can someone lead me into a direction.
I'v honestly has no luck, some people say start learning C++,C,Visual basics and it will help but exactly how?
Lol one last questions, how old is everyone?

1. Hacking is simply using something in a way that it was not originally intended for. Today the term is bastardized however and is often used to describe the act of breaking into computer systems.

That's one hell of an accurate definition of hacking, you learn simple life hacks and normal people act one of two ways fear or awe. To acquire this effect or ability to affect others you need to learn how to do something a bit more abstract then writing cursive  ;)  especially when it comes to the digital world, it's easy to learn if you grew up in the era of the internet though  :D  benefits of modern technology; even smart kids in 3rd world countries can become notorious hackers if they put the effort in.

Another response I liked but didn't quote was read, I don't know if a lot of people realize this but by reading different perspectives not only do you exercise your brain but you expand your consciousness. The more a given perception contrasts with your own the more information you acquire, learning to critically analyze that information is what's important, and hacking is about using your analysis to do things that most wouldn't consider possible.

Here's a link, check this out; but don't expect handouts if you're serious about learning you need to do the majority of the legwork on your own, this isn't public school  :P

Hacking is a mindset.
You can hack everything with the proper mindset. You can hack even your thoughts if you truly believe so. I'd say it's when you learn every detail about something and then using that knowledge to create something new or improved. I can type these words just to type them or I can type them with the proper attitude and knowing that 'exploit' or 'rule' I know how to modify, use or break it. Simple as that. Now you can use that mindset on every thing in your life. Not satisfied with your body? Hack it! Not satisfied with your social skills? Hack them!

Hack to learn, don't learn to hack.
Exactly. If you want to hack someones system or website, don't do it for the hacking itself. Do it for the sake of learning new things, and learning how those things operate. The journey is more important than the destination.

So, what exactly is hacking? I'd say hacking is a lifestyle, a mindset. To overcome every problem e.g. nothing is impossible.

When it comes to these terms, hacking and computers than hacking is an art. You can't be a hacker if you want to just ruin someones system or break in it. If you want to be a hacker you need to know exactly what you're doing, how you're going to do it and the most important thing - why you're doing it in the first place.

Here are a few articles that I'd put into 'introducing' zone. Enjoy learning new things!
