Network Problem
« on: May 31, 2012, 10:51:18 am »
I'm sorry if I put this in a wrong category.

So basically I'm running Win7 Pro, connected with LAN to the domain.

The problem is sometimes i can connect to the server but can't resolve the servername to IP. So everytime i must use direct IP when connect to the web application or database server.

I had consulted this to the network guy and nothing is wrong in the server setting they said.

What I don't understand is I have a random time when the problem occurs. Sometimes it works (resolve name), sometimes it doesn't work.

Where else should I check if the problem is in my machine?

Regards,
JM786

Sounds like a DNS issue to me. Switch to googles at 8.8.8.8 and see if it continues.

I have tried that before and it still exists. The current DNS is the office own DNS server, primary and secondary. everyone else using the same dns server, but only my machine is behave like this..

Is the clock on your computer right? That can cause stuff to go screwy if the date is wrong.

I can guarantee it's 100% correct. But how can that relate to the DNS stuff?

DNS resolves domain names into IP addresses.

The problem is sometimes i can connect to the server but can't resolve the servername to IP. So everytime i must use direct IP when connect to the web application or database server.

This looks like it can't figure out what url your inputting, thus you have to use direct IP addresses.

as techb suggested, use 8.8.8.8 as DNS but you seem to have  done that.. maybe see if your host file were messed up by someone?

as far as I know host files are the only files that are used to resolve domain names locally..
