Walking around the internet..

So i've always enjoyed the idea of exploring computer networks. With nmap's '-iR' you are enabled this right. DSL switches with default passwords ==  somewhat tasty and reminiscent on the earlier days of network exploration. I guess I just missed out on the whole BBS thing..

I like the general idea of what your saying but am a bit confused in the middle part, the bit about "you are enabled this right. dsl switches with default passwords..."Perhaps you could explain it for me a bit more or find someone else who can? I'm not trying to rag on your language skills at all btw, that just wouldn't be right to make fun of someone for not knowing a language they didn't grow up speaking. I'm just hoping someone one here can help with my confusion because I love what your saying about exploring networks just to explore. And I too missed out on the whole BBS thing....

It's okay; I'm sorry. I didn't realize at first that you wanted a more specific description. If you use for example:

nmap -iR 25000 -p22 --open

nmap will scan 25000 random hosts for port 22 open. Useful when looking for random hosts with a specific service running. Apparently the creators of nmap intended their users to explore computer networks. This is counter-belief to a lot of people(especially security-practitioners). When will they learn; there's always more to it than mischief..

I watched a youtube vid about the creator of nmap scanning like EVERY ip lol he was just doing it to find bugs in nmap, no mischief there :)
