Making a website, who wants to help?
« on: October 24, 2012, 05:59:56 am »

I was wondering if anyone here ever gets together to work on projects? I was wanting to make a new website, but majority of my skill lies in xhtml and css. I need a web designer and  web programmer badly. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to pay anyone, so I was thinking it could perhaps be a joint effort, with those who helped becoming site admins or anything else they'd like.
I'm posting this just to see if anyone would like to help, just seeing if it would be possible. If it is, Ill post more information about my idea(which i'm really proud of), and explain how we're going to get it done.
Thank you.

Ditto that, I'm not a boss but I'm decent and depending on the site etc. I might be interested in getting started. Tell us more, and we'll let you know :)

Lol i get it guys, there's really no point in withholding any information. Sorry about that.
I wanted to create a website that allows for the sharing of knowledge and official collaborations. I realized that there is a lot of really smart people who don't have college degrees, but could make some serious cash if they put their abilities to use outside of college. So this site will give them people to collaborate with and make projects together. If you know how to program but you are shy on ideas, or if you want to make a movie but have no actors or animators, this site would help you out alot. By hanging out in the community website, people will begin to feel more comfortable with working together, because they are actually friends. You'd be able to have a portfolio showing the things you know how to do and your goals.
The site would also serve as a huge advertisement, as the whole community will be encouraged to promote the ideas of friends. All projects made will be posted in affiliation with the site.
Lastly, there will be an elite position(Easy to get into the only requirement is showing a willingness to learn.), which will give people the option of working with people who they know are serious.
I also wanted to have a donation option so that we can actually make things like work stations and the like, but that of course would be in the future. There will be a terms and agreements prohibited the stealing of ideas and the like.
There is a bit more substance to the site of course, but that is the gist of it.(I am not suggesting it as an extension to EZ because in this site i want to draw skills from all fields to make really awesome things, and I feel like there would still be a need for a purely hacking based site.)
So, i can do all the basic html stuff, but i need help with everything else. I have already made the basic rough draft of the site.

Hmm, I hadn't heard of it before but just looked it up. Something sort of like that, but more aimed towards educating the masses and allowing people in every specialized field to come together and by sharing knowledge and resources get increasingly innovative. My site is more of a community thing, where you create unique ideas, and choose people who you now know from the community to create them. The simplest way i can put it is that it's a project based forum.
Thanks for replying.

Yeah, pretty much, i guess. But i also wanted to eventually add in mass tutorials from the community and build up a workshop and network together to build companys too. So I think just a bit higher scale than Elance. It also involves making real friendships, and trusting people because of it.

Thank you Zesh. I do have a first draft, but I think there wouldn't be much point in sharing it. I actually probably should not have even mentioned it. The reason being that it is simply an outline of the site just to sort outline the idea for myself. It is really simple and has no graphics or anything. I was actually going to propose completely remodeling the site from scratch, as graphic designs would make a huge difference. IMO the color scheme and settings make it look really basic and weak right now, which is why I need some help. My initial idea of the site will have no influence on the future of the project.

I'm going to have to disagree with the first idea, simply because making something from scratch can be a lot of fun and can be a great learning experience. Like I mentioned before, I think this is an interesting idea and I'd like to help.

First of all, we should make a design document, outlining the layout, features etc. This will give us something to refer back to when we get stuck and will keep us focused on what we've layed out already instead of going big from the start.

Dream big, keep it simple from the start, build up towards your dream!

http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/open-source-project-management-software.html

Project management would be a good idea

Also you can start a base with a pre made script/template and then build on top of it

Thanks  alot guys. Skidiot.h, how do those programs compare to google drive? That was the first file sharing/editing software I had found. Thanks for the link I will look into each one of them.
Zesh, great idea on how we should lay out the project.
Would you guys be willing to start producing it immediately? Should we get our own irc channel first for more instant communication?(This would be my first cross-computer project, I'm a little ignorant of how to run everything so I apologize) I really appreciate your guys' help. :D
