I like the color pallet and the blurring around the edges. The only thing I would suggest is maybe filling it in with some color too. Unless it's on a black background then it would look cool with the contrast.
Maybe see if your friend can do a version in ink with solid lines? Maybe that would be easier to work with in GIMP? Also, if you wanted to make it look perfectly symmetrical maybe you could select half of it and mirror it somehow?

Great ideas and thanks for the input. I will definitely do what you said but there's a small problem. Because the image is originally drawn, when I try to fill it in it's too patchy... I may have to have that drawn on paper as well, but i'm not sure if my friend  has proper materials.
I will try the black background now, sounds like a great idea.
Thanks!

Not that great of a job but it should make it easier to work with at least.

Thanks, I will start working on this one...it will definitely make things easier! Less smudges and all.
Here is one with a darker back ground as you had said... do you want it even darker? I was thinking any darker may be too much.
I will probably start editing the one you made in a sec, any suggestions before I do? If you want, we can even change the whole color scheme :D
Tell me what you think is best. Thanks again. Awesome new avatar, by the way.

What I had in mind was a black background with the colors still just as bright. You'd probably have to change the color of the infinity symbol to get that to work though. But if you don't like it then stick with the white, it looks great. I like the color scheme personally but  it wouldn't hurt to play around, try some things and see what you like. :)

Oh, I see what you're saying! That sounds like a great idea. But I added a gradient layer, and it merged with the logo layer, so I would have to start all over again, lol. Maybe when I have some more time. Right now I'm working on the one you sent, following what you just said. It's really high contrast and will probably look very different from the one's you guys have seen so far. We'll see.

Double post for update:
Please compare these three, guys, and tell me what you think.(Also adding in a 4th one so you guys can see where I started from.) One is using Wabi's high contrast idea. Keep in mind that, once again, I suck at GIMP and these will not be the final version. Zesh, who's actually good at GIMP will probably create the final version, but I haven't seen him on for a while...
But I do hope these get the point across. So, which is best?

The blue one is my favorite. And I really like the feathering on the last one, really makes it look like it's  on fire.

Thanks! So maybe use the same technique on the blue one? I didn't know how to do it back then... I'm learning fast.
Also, as many opinions as possible would be nice guys, I really want the logo to be appealing.

So two for blue, and 1 for the contrast one. It's funny because I was just messing around on the blue one, I almost didn't post it.
My favorite is actually the dark one, the first of the three i posted.
Thanks for the input, keep it up guys!

Thanks Skid! Does this mean your helping as well :D? Lol, jk you don't have too.
I like your image a lot, this is what i mean by someone who actually knows the program. This is literally my first time EVER making art... I'm surprised I'm even doing this well. :D
What does everyone else think of his phoenix, in comparison with the others so far, so we can decide?
I think your's looks more like a logo than just a piece of random art, which is good. I'm leaning towards yours personally.
Keep it up guys! Thanks!

Well im pretty limited in my ability with photoshop but I know a few things. I darkend the outline made a few different layers, filled in layers with a diamond gradient fill, and then duplicated the layer and applied a motion blur filter. Idk what much to do with it... If you give me a name and a website design I could possibly work up a better mockup of a logo.

As far as helping with the project, if I see a place that I can share some input or ideas I'll let you know. Nothing official though ;-)

Still working on the official web template, but as far as info about the site and the name:
http://evilzone.org/projects-and-discussion/making-a-website/msg35466/#msg35466
Actual explanation is a few posts down. The name will either be Infinity or Infiniti.
I really, really appreciate everyone's help so far. You guys are the best.
EDIT: Heres a nice screenshot of all the phoenix's so far.
