We try to make the game as close as possible to the real world. After all this is real security training and fun, this would be what happen in a real cyber war, and this should be the way, people should learn hands on security; both defensive and offensive. :-)

Lol good ideas...but didn't answer any of my questions :P

@hackademy: is the clock counting to new year's eve or will the CTF begin at the new year's? if that's the case then IMO it's a bad choice for a game time.

The clock is setup for new year eve marking the beginning of the new year. We want to start somewhere in January or February.

Guess you already have a few guidlines, a fully detailed list would be nice so we can get started though. As for the other teams, how are we supposed to find them? I'm guessing you'll have a list of IP's you pass out? I mean we can't just go scanning the web, theres just wayyy to many computers connected to just random scan for the other teams...

No, we don't have Daemon. :-))) This is the good part. We simply know how to virtualize. We have another project called Hack a Server and we come up to use our backend technology for this kind of CTF. Internet within The Internet.
As I mentioned, we really want to make this virtual internet as close to real one.

I'd love to join, since I've joined the IRC and nobody is alive... how could I get involved with this "team" as I'd love to contribute something, but I'm not sure if I'm good enough.  I'm sure I could help with something though.

Just come to the channel and talk to Daemon or other team members :)

I'm guessing you're using a local area net for the virtualization within the 172, 192, or 10 range?  Otherwise things could get rather messy having done similar things myself.  Also when are more details going to be posted about the server stats and rules?  The rules are quite vague right now.  The other problem is how many vms are going to be on a machine because if you break out of the VM then it'd be quite easy to hack into the other competition.

Just an update guys, the first team is almost full. We have 7 slots filled once Polyphony joins and teams max at 10, were saving the last 3 to fill in our skills so we'll have to do invite only on those last 3. Sorry folks.

But there is nothing that says you can't make another team! If EZ has two teams that's even better! Though we are n00bPatr0l, so find your own name :P

Lol, I want to join so bad, but at this point I am only really a programmer, still working on penetration skills... I think I will have to sit this one out, don't want to ruin your guys' chances lol. But, I think it would be great for practice, even if I get crushed, so if any people around my skill level would like to create a secondary team, I'm in. :)

Hi guys,

sorry for answering so late. We've been busy. :-)

I'm guessing you're using a local area net for the virtualization within the 172, 192, or 10 range?

yes indeed we use local area. you can check on our https://hackaserver.com

Otherwise things could get rather messy having done similar things myself.  Also when are more details going to be posted about the server stats and rules?  The rules are quite vague right now.

There are two reasons that the rules looks vague: 1) we want to mimic the real internet. 2) we still working on the game design.

The other problem is how many vms are going to be on a machine because if you break out of the VM then it'd be quite easy to hack into the other competition.

on hackaserver we already have over 500 servers build and still up and running.

But there is nothing that says you can't make another team! If EZ has two teams that's even better! Though we are n00bPatr0l, so find your own name :P

you can make as many team as you want. The only rule is a user can't be part of two teams. ;-) In fact would be great if you all guys spread the word and share within other forums that are security related or sysadmin forums. The more you are the better will be.

Lol, I want to join so bad, but at this point I am only really a programmer, still working on penetration skills... I think I will have to sit this one out, don't want to ruin your guys' chances lol. Embeded programmers are an valuable asset in such teams. They are the one who can build better scripts. On the other hand you can practice on other already vulnerable VMs.

:P the only problem is we already have those, and I'm the main one.  Your rules are limiting us too much! jk.

Regarding the game though, what is the cost of admission as I'm unclear as what the different between a premium account and a no premium account is.  Any difference affecting game play?

A Premium account means that we provide you a VPS where you can install all your tools and you can start play from your smartphone/tablet without the need of a laptop/desktop. :-)
