Desk Lights
« on: February 11, 2013, 12:06:24 am »
I recently upgraded my computer, got a few monitors, essentially upgraded my entire setup. I was working at night, and thought to myself "I need lights." (those exact words, yes). I figured it would be a quick simple amazon search to get some desk lights. Apparently there aren't any certain lights that are made for desk lights (other then desk lamps). I'm thinking the kind that an individual can put behind the desk, plug into the wall and have a switch to give a blue ambient lighting theme come from around your work space. I was thinking Christmas lights, but I'm not sure if that will give what I'm looking for. Does anybody here have suggestions or actual experience in the matter, and care to share their thoughts?

I say DIY all the way. Making something with LED's is super simple. If you decide to go DIY, I'll help ya out.

You should consider the color.
Blue/whitish = awake
red(warm colors) = sleep
Also take something non flickering, it makes you tired.

I use redshit after say 10 P.M.

I like the rope lights, and the DIY ones look nice, but I don't really need 32 ft of cord, just like 5 :P I want a blue led, because I have a Razer Lycosa (blue) and a blue led in my computer (ik its just fluff and serves no function, but hey, blue LED in my computer). What was this about t he car lighting kit? What kind of LED's are they, easy stick ons or part of some DIY stuff? Ill gladly do both if its only $10.

Easy stick on lighting bars, its 2 bars with 2 LEDS on either end of each bar shining inward so the whole bar lights up. There's a couple different kinds but they're all easy stick-on ones, peel off the back and paste them on. You will need some wire strippers though, they come with a plugin to fit a car cig lighter. The ones I put in my desktop, I just wired them into one of the fans, they're the same wattage/voltage rating. Come with between 5-10ft of wire. Of course I got a little rough and broke a set I had on my entertainment center and turned those into some DIY lights..its easy to remove the LED's from the bar.

Perfect, and I think I have a switch too (if not, paperclips make great switches). Will probably be a few days before I get to the store and install them, but ill post pics when its all set up. Thanks again mates :)
