system crash
« on: March 13, 2013, 06:24:09 pm »
hi all, I need some help from you guys. I intentionally installed two os on my laptop (windows 7, nd ubuntu 32 bit 12.10 desktop version) so, the problem is I was kind of fooling around with my Pc nd installed ubuntu on same pc for several times, nd then deleted two of them(but their virtual images were left behind in the hard drive unknowingly), and after that I again installed ubuntu's same version with the help of universal usb installer (on an another drive other than C: drive). and now when I restarted my lappy for running ubuntu, it didn't respond according to what I expected, and its black screen showed me an error with (multiple active partitions / error os loading). I don't know how to deal with this situation, please help me out. My first preference is to run both Os but if it's not possible then I want atleast one of them to work properly (ubuntu is my first choice). If its not possible to run any of the os again on this lappy, then I would love to format my whole hard disk.
If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right.

it sounds like you have a problem with the Master Boot record. this is a conflict that happens when multiple partitions are flagged to boot at once. try to put a windows recovery disk in, go into the command prompt and type this
Code: [Select]

bootrec /fixboot

bootrec /fixmbr

if everything goings fine you should boot into windows. there delete all of the ubuntu partions and try to reinstall it.
