tl;dr for you all:
usa is going to bomb Syria, China and Russia have stated they will take military action against usa if usa does bomb syria, which will essentially cause ww3.
thoughts?
-
Yeah I'm not surprised. Russia doesn't like NATO, they never did. Syria kind of brought the hellfire on themselves using the chemical weapons, that was seriously a stupid move.
We'll have to wait and see. I don't think WW3 will start this soon.
-
Well so far as my intel says they will "only" send a bunch of hellfire missiles from their ships to destroy their commando centers and ammunition depots.
WW3? No way that's going to start in the nearest future, it would have started with Libya then.
Russia doesn't like NATO? Hell fucking no, NATO is probably the last enemy I wish to have. A collection of some of the biggest military nations in the world.
-
Where are the news? I've been waiting for WW3 since North Korea announced they successfully conducted their latest nuclear test. Also, the world "crisis" points to a war, it has always been like this, it will always be.
-

I don't fully believe that Syria has used chemical weapons, sounds like another alibi to invade another country of far east, for materialistic reasons (oil, tactical purposes) as well as to close down towards far east and Russia to keep an eye on them.
They may be in possession of those weapons, but I don't think they, as the country officials have used it, if anything, some 'terrorist' or revolution groups have done so to cause this major harm. Who would bomb their own people to start up this whole thing with USA? Obviously either double agents working for USA or other groups allied to US and EU... If they are in possession though, we are in big trouble if anything happens, simply because world is corrupted and moving those weapons to EU or US would not be a massively hard thing to do... over time of course... which could start WW3... We aren't too far from another global war, it's been the longest term in official human existence within which we have lived in peace (I mean not total war, but other wars were always held all over the globe, many of which are unofficial)...
Odd alliances are being created between scientists, for example Germans seem to work with Japanese (Recently managed to teleport memory held within some sort of computerized circuit, some tiny one)
Also Russians seem to co-work with far-east, such as Syria...
I think it's quite plausible that WW3 comes within next 10 years if we keep walking this path...
-
I agree with Phage, I don't think anything like a WW3 can start soon. Russia and China wouldn't start launching ballistic missiles at U.S. territory just because the U.S. did a couple of tactical strikes in Syria.
I'm quite convinced neither of the parties want to unleash a potential nuclear war (cause let's be serious, all sides of the world own nuclear weapons that are not officially declared).

Sure, but better weapons than nuclear are being developed at all times, recently, I can't remember which country, probably US, were working on even more powerful weapons which were meant to be using Tritium, as far as I remember...

Yeah I basically wanted to underline the fact that nuclear war can literally destroy life on the surface of the planet (intelligent life).
Also, tritium is used in nuclear weapons in order to: "enhance the efficiency and yield of fission bombs and the fission stages of hydrogen bombs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogen_bomb) in a process known as 'boosting (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boosted_fission_weapon)' as well as in external neutron initiators (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/External_neutron_initiator) for such weapons."

The US has gotten rid of all of its old A bombs(to the best of my knowledge), while russia still has some of the old style bombs all modern nuclear bombs are thermonuclear, which use tritium, a radioactive material(hydrogen also why they are known as a hydrogen or H bomb). While it has a VERY short half life it IS still radioactive, meaning what you are describing would be a nuclear bomb.
While the US has some other very interesting bombs the only other bomb i know of that the US is building with tritium is a nuclear bunker-buster. As far as conventional bombs go the US already has its answer for a city buster(at least a small city, certainly any base, even a VERY large one) which is the MOAB(Massive Ordinance Arial Burst/Air Blast) which is a ~40k lbs bomb/11 tons TNT yield(our smaller nukes do 30-50 ton TNT yield as an idea). Russia supposedly has one more powerful but i dont know its weight/yield or hell even its name.
Anyway considering the incident(s) that have gotten the US into two different world wars, and what set them off, i dont see how anyone can be so optimistic as to say that this COULDNT start a world war. Wars have been fought for less :/.
As for who gassed who lets hope the UN investigators find out. But frankly im not willing to take EITHER side at their word. Someone gassed someone, they DO need a lesson. I just hope the world teaches the lesson to the right people and that it doesnt start a war to end all wars....(as if that could ever happen while the human race survives...)
In the end what i know is this: whats going on over their scares the shit out of me. This very well COULD start a world war, and if so their are 0 guarantees it will stay conventional. Add to it that tensions are at a boiling point in several other countries over various things and this war could end up being a free for all. Israel has been at war since its inception, guaranteed IT gets into a major battle for its life. North/South Korea probably goes to war with the US/UN distracted. China if it gets involved makes a grab for Taiwan(damn near guaranteed) maybe goes after Japan, maybe goes after Russia, maybe all of the above. Russia if it gets involved....who the hell knows, their Russians. Analysts have been trying to predict what will happen in Russia with a damn near unlimited budget for the past 50 years, and have gotten more wrong that right, and we knew/know so many Russian secrets that even most of their own citizens dont know its not even funny. Even with MASSIVE amounts of inside information we couldnt predict them then, let alone now. In the end i really only see it going one of two ways. A small fast scirmish with a few missles fired or bombs dropped....or a giant fuck fest, and not the good kind either.

In my honest opinion, this will probably not be a WW3 it will be an undeclared battle that will take place undercover, like many things under this country's power have been and conspired like the events in John F. Kennedy & Martin Luther King Jr.'s deaths. This event then when lead to a Domino Theory were one thing happens after another thus then leading up to a possible WW3.
-
British, don't care.
-
I can say that WW3 is very near. I mean all of the ops conducted by the US have caused some stir in other countries. Anti-US sentiment is growing all over the world. PRISM, has caused a lot of Anti-US sentiment, particularly in the western world. Then the instability in Egypt and the threat of an attack on Syria is causing hatred in the Muslim World.
Apart from the US, tensions have increased all across the world. There is increased tension across the Pak-Indian LOC, with Mullah Omar threatening to declare war if attacks against Pakistan continue. Then there's the instability in Africa. It has become a very unstable region. Now the world's super powers are taking sides in the conflicts.
I will conclude, that if these tensions don't go down, we could be looking at a global conflict, which could go nuclear.
-
It wouldn't surprise me if it started within 10 years. This poll I read said about 70 percent of Americans trust and justify all actions the US government does pertaining to war. One ignorant girl said 'they are leaders for a reason' or something along those lines. I live in the US but I don't agree with how it's run at all. The government here has been sticking their nose in other people's business for a long time now. I understand the UN was made to prevent war but I don't see how attacking everyone is anyway effective. I see those conferences going like:
Canada: Do you want some coffee?
US: Yes, we will bomb them.
China: what are you talking about?
US: Who do we need to bomb?

Look up the video Soldier's Waking Up To Obama's. plan in SyRia!!!!
-
I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.
Albert Einstein.
-
A war like WWIII will start with a coup. A toppling of the powers that be, and those same powers not wanting to give up power, deciding that it's better to kill off everyone they can if they cannot have the power they have now.
-
Personally, I believe that world war 3 will utilise computers much more. global intelligence will become a top priority, with agencies like the NSA, and GCHQ not only stepping up and becoming more vocal, but possibly even recruiting whoever they can. It will be a race to try and disable communication of the other side, prevent news getting to those waiting to start a MAD scenario. It will be much more about disabling the technology of the other side, rather than killing the footsoldiers. We are fast approaching the point where computers are a much more powerful weapon than the equipment we have on the ground.
-
just fyi; Sweden will win, I mean, have you seen our fast defense? And not to speak of our army (Some dogs that are +20 years).
WW3 will happen, no doubt, violence is in our nature, but if it will be now is unclear, as previously said, Russia and others won't just attack the U.S because they attacked Syria.
Also, now the Syrian regime has said that they agree to Russia's and the U.S's terms with destroying the weapons, however, I believe they wanted to get some help (Money) so that it could be operated safely.

Just fyi; Sweden can't even defend the half of their country due to the size of the country. And a month or two ago you let to russian fighter jets pass through your air space. You didn't even notice until the danish air force contacted you and sent two F-16's as show off force.
You (Sweden) are getting too comfortable :P

Phage, I was ironic you know.... [snip]have you seen our fast defense? [...]
Why I said that is because of those russian spy planes that got over us. However, it's kindof fun, we have the best planes in the world, and with them, we could have the greatest defense in the world, yet we sell them.
-
WHUT? Best planes in the world? :o
F-22 vs Gripen
F-35 vs Gripen
Eurofighter vs Gripen
Gripen will get pwned in every battle. There's a reason why "you" are not able to sell them to any country while the F-35 and Eurofighter sells great ;)
-
The Typhoon is crap :P
It hasn't proven much in war games and I doubt it will be a big asset
-
Pak_Track, you are clearly lacking behind in keeping track then...
A year or two ago two Eurofighters were fighting two F-22's. The two Eurofighters beated the F-22's and the americans cancelled the exercise due to this.

My country is like 147,570 km² , if a nuke strikes even the edge of this country, you guys can kiss my ass goodbye.
I don't want any war. Our army forces are total assholes. They care for themselves. The'll prabobly runaway from the battle for their owne saifety. Nigher do we have any good weapon technology. And I don't think this will change for a along time.
Also the reason im afraid of war is my country so called "The beloved daughter of nature" is literally floating on natural gass, which we can't even pull out due to some asshole leaders. When the crisis of oil gets real serious, our country becomes the "bool's eye". US is most likely gonna offer the tech to get all that gass out and take 50% or even more of the gass away with it. So US builds nuke launchers on the root of the closest rout to japan and china and when those countries counter strike.......
Game Over.

If your country is floating on natural gas, then why your country is one of the poorest countries in the world?.

As I said before, that gass can't be brought up because we don't have the tech to do so. US did offer us the tech but they wanted too much of the gass, so we refused. :)
Also after it's independence, actually even before the war started, most of our educated people were assasinated in 14th December 1971. So all the illiterates (victems of superstition) were left to die.
So even loosing all those intelligence we win the war. But after, that most people were soo stupid that they didn't even think about the future and ended up having 4-8 childrens each, thus crisis of everything expands as the number of our population explodes. And so on, many reason this country became so poor. I could write alot more but this is going off topic, I hope you got the answer.

You mean hydrogen bombs? Those have been in our arsenal since the 1950's. But as far as the WWIII thing, I honestly don't think it will happen in today's world. The countries are too busy making money off of each other now with the global economy. Why would China go to war with the United States, and kill a massive chunk of their market? Same with Russia, which is just starting to finally develop some sort of any economy, since the collapse of the Soviet Union left it destitute. Plus, why would they attack the United States for attacking Syria now, when we are all on better terms than back during the Cold War, yet the Soviet Union didn't attack us when we got involved in Korea, or Vietnam, or Afghanistan. If anything was going to set off another war, it would have been that.

However much I agree with your reason, reason has never been such a strong argument in war, not as far as I understand it, maybe Im just a simple mind.

A few years ago, a Pakistani F16 beat eurofighters in an excercise 3-0 :P
-
Maybe, you see it all depends on the pilot and other factors. F-16 is a really great plane, it's no wonder they beat it. But you just can't state that the eurofighter is a bad plane, unless you have actually tried it out or it has lost in major battles. And I'm pretty sure none of that has happened.
Plus I have been sitting in a real eurofighter a couple of years ago :P
-
On any plane vs another plane in these times is a bit misleading, as its the integration of the other parts of the force that matter. By that i mean when you are looking at things like this you have to bring into account OTH warfare, so things like an AWAC and stealth become a HUGE issue. If the only thing you see in the sky is the AWAC, you are at a disadvantage. We(america) would see all of your planes and your AWAC. We know all of your movements, and most kills today are made OTH, very few dogfights ever happen. As far as how such battles are fought today the f35 has a huge advantage, as its harder to shoot down OTH. So yes on paper, the eurofighter may be better in every category, but the fact that it cant "hide" is a major disadvantage. its the proverbial bringing a knife to a ninja fight. yeah if you can find that ninja you can stab the shit out of him, but the first you are going to know of him is when you see throwing stars being tossed at your face. Then again the fact that we sell this tech to friendly countries means that it comes down more to skill and planning, and war exercise after war exercise (large scale) we win. part of it being we do keep a slight tech edge on what systems we will sell, part of it being training(not so much here) the other big part being that we have more people in uniform that have BEEN in battle/war, its the one thing that money cant buy, and its one of the most critical components in any war. Still sort of a sideline right? i mean the only country in the EU that has to worry about us is France, and thats just because well fuck the French.
-
You are totally right! I'm not sure who you were targeting (I suppose both os us) but I can insure you that I know this and I do agree. This discussion started when WirelessDesert claimed that their Gripen planes were the best in the world, when the fact is that no country wants to buy them etc.
As to the F-35, it's a really great plane which I hope will be the future fighter jet for the Danish Airforce (I'm pretty sure it's going to be). The only thing I see the F-35 lacks off is maneuverability. Because of the way it's build (the stealth technique) they had to cut down on something. When that's said, it's still a really great plane, ready to take up future combats and wars. But one thing is for sure, the F-22 is still the master of the airspace, no fighter jet is even close to threatening its place as the bet fighter jet in the world. After all, there's a reason why it's forbidden by US law to sell it to other countries ;)
A few days ago a new story published by the US air force stated that they had been using the F-22 against two Iranian F-4 Phantom which were heading to a US UAV; Probably to shoot it down. The US then sent one F-22 to take care of it. First the F-22 placed it self under the two F-4 Phantom's to take a closer look at which weapons they were carrying (without them noticing it). It then moved up on the side of the two Phantom's and the pilot called over the radio "I think it's better you just head back home". The two Phantom's disappeared right after he said that.
The fact that the F-22 was able to sneak up behind those two (though old) jets and inspect their weapons without them noticing it, is pretty scary. And it's just a prove on how advanced the air plane is. It is almost invisible to radars (there's only a very few cases where it can be seen. i.e when it carries bombs on the outside of the plain, or drops bombs from the inside of the plane) and at the same time has insane maneuverability it's amazing.
-
Yeah the F-22 is an incredible machine. I saw one at an air show a few years back, and that thing was awesome. Combining thrust vectoring, Mach 1.5+ supercruise ability, stealth, higher climb rate than the F-15, and a whole bunch of other stuff is just so cool. It is the only 5th generation fighter so far, and the next one will be the F-35, which is also going to be quite an interesting plane. They are both really cool. My only gripe is with the whole procurement process used to get the planes, not the planes themselves. I think that they could probably be produced for less money if these companies that won the contracts were held accountable for cost overruns. But I still like the planes themselves, they are freaking sweet.
-

I suspected that, but it's hard to get irony when it's written ;)
-
Let us not forget the down sides of the F22. It has long been reported that F22 pilots suffer more frequent spatial disorientation and a condition referred to as "Raptor Cough." It is speculated that there is a fault with the aircraft's oxygen system to provide the pilot with breathing air, something that's needed in larger amounts during high G maneuvering.
btw, aren't we going a bit off topic?
-
Those problems have been solved... And yes we are.

Yeah I thought the hypoxia thing was fixed? I know they had it multiple times, but after the last grounding I thought they figured out what it was. Plus I heard they are installing a backup oxygen system as well, for redundancy. But yeah, we probably are getting off topic haha.
-
I'll try to kick it back on,
Drone Attacks can also result in a standoff. I mean, if a countries airforce responds and shoots down a drone, or it's taken down by a SAM, the US and CIA will respond. Ground operations could occur. Resulting in further response. This will result in a lot of tension and could break into an all out war :P
-
Nice discussion but stop the bullshit about who has the best plane, doesnt matter.
