Recover Flash Drive Password
« on: April 25, 2013, 07:07:00 pm »
I have two san disk flash drives I have forgotten the passwords to.  Does anyone know how to recover these passwords.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you encrypt them or did it come with Windows software that asks you for password when you plug it in?

If the data was encrypted with Sandisk SecureAccess, there is little hope of recovering the contents.
SecureAccess uses 128-bit AES to encrypt the files, which is currently infeasible to crack with anything other than a brueforce attack (which will probably take a long time).

I didn't encrypt it.  I used the u3 software that was already on the flash drive.  I remember part of the password and I think I only used upper and lower case letters, no numbers or special characters.  Would that help?

If you didn't encrypt them, then just boot Linux through a live cd, mount the usb flash disks and remove the windows software that asks for the password.

I know how to boot Linux through a live cd, but after I mount the flash drives, how do I remove the windows software?  I'm not familiar with Linux.
