What does grade 5 mean?
In our country it is the second worst grade you can get. :D

I also searched for the equivalent of college and diploma course and the meaning seems to vary from country to country.

In India, degree is given more importance than diploma. Though, you can get degree after diploma, I will advice for 10+2 and then degree.
Better know it and don't need rather than need it and don't know it

So basically 5.00 is like your "grade point average" system? In the U.S., a 4.00 is having an A in 7 subjects, where an A can be anywhere from 85 to 90 points or higher (assuming 100 is the maximum) depending on what school you're in.

I will suggest first attend college(10+2) and after that go for bachelor degree. Doing diploma is like wasting your time.

No, not quite. A lot of European countries use numerical grades instead of alphabetical ones, and some don't have what is equivalent to a GPA system, e.g.

2 = F; 3 = D; 4 = C, 5 = B, 6 = A

Hmm I see.. usually we go by a percentage. 100% is the best you can get, and depending on where you're at the letter grades correspond with the percentage, such as my school uses this system:

A = 90%, B = 80%, C = 70%, D = 60%.

But it wasn't always that way, a few years ago it was all messed up like this:

A = 93.5%, B = 85%, C = 77.5 %, D = 70 %

Which made things much harder. Our GPA system is an odd one, if you have an A in every class, then you have a 4.0. But if you have a B in one class and an A in every other class, it'll be a 3.9. However, if you're failing one class but getting all A's in everything else, it could go down to a 3.5. But if you have a B in every class, it's also a 3.5.

That's right and some of them are exactly the other way around (1 is best, 6 is worst or vice versa) which actually led to the misconception that Albert Einstein had bad grades. He didn't, he was in fact a pretty good student, but the first one to write a biography about him messed it all up.

Interesting fact about Einstein.. Time to go correct some people.

Yeah, I've known about that for quite some time. Reading Cracked.com does wonders (or it used to, now its quality has devolved significantly).
