If you can get a good deal on a galaxy  s for 100usd , but for that price maybe try  HTC or along those lines, something like the HTC Droid incredible.

Edit: be sure to keep in mind locked and unlocked phones when buying one.

If you're content with it. You can use CyanogenMod to get all the ice cream sandwhich goodness on to your device as well. I never used ginger bread, maybe check the compatibility of ICS 4.0 on the explorer just to be safe since you plan on using CyanogenMod.

You can look for Indian phones like Karbonn and Micromax. They are cheap and has nice features. I don't think you will find any good features at that price in Samsung.

I said cheap android phones, that doesnt mean i want to buy crap phones, im looking for an android phone becaus i want to get into android developement later on. And i think HTC explorer is enough for me (mainly becaus 512 mb of ram) so thats my choice right now.
If anyone else has any good suggestion pleas post but if your going to suggest those "made for lasting as long as the warranty lasts" phones, dont bother posting.

I used the LG Ally for over three years with no hardware failures. I ended up upgrading though and primarily just use it for development now. It was $100 in 2010 so I'm sure you can find it reasonably priced. The specifications are somewhat shotty, excellent quality pictures but slow processor. They released the LG Enlighten and LG Vortex after that which are somewhat faster though. I like LG products, I think they are pretty good quality.

I have been using HTC Wildfire for few years. It wasn't cheap when I bought it, in about 2010 I think. But niw it should be relatively cheap.
Doing daily tasks on it is not hard, small screen and a bit bulky touch response but it was doing its job well. Isnt fast but enough for development and I used it a lot. Feels good in your hand :P
Been able to install cyanogenmod and used that for over a year.

So yeah I would say wildfire would be one if the options.

Btw rasenove, from what I have seen until now you wouldn't manage programming :P but you can always prove me wrong :)

for about $100 i suppose you could get the samsung galaxy mini as i believe it has cyanogenmod fully working now. but it has a low pixel density screen which looks quite crappy

if you dont give a shit about cyanogenmod then go for a chinese device. http://dx.com , http://pandawill.com - for 100 bucks you can get a dual-core machine. problem is though at that price it may be stuck with android 2.2 froyo or 2.3 gingerbread

my first Android-driven phone was a Acer liquid mini (E310).
well, its price was about 100 €(round about 120 usd) in 11/2011, so i think it would be quiet cheap for now.
it was a very stable running device, never had problems with it, no driver issues or what else.
rooting went without problems
just a suggestion.
