Is your son a computer hacker?
« on: June 05, 2013, 05:43:27 pm »
This thing:

http://www.adequacy.org/stories/2001.12.2.42056.2147.html

is the funniest shit I've read this week. Incredbile... truly incredible.

Just to get you going a bit:
Quote
8. Is your son obsessed with "Lunix"?
BSD, Lunix, Debian and Mandrake are all versions of an illegal hacker operation system, invented by a Soviet computer hacker named Linyos Torovoltos, before the Russians lost the Cold War. It is based on a program called "xenix", which was written by Microsoft for the US government. These programs are used by hackers to break into other people's computer systems to steal credit card numbers. They may also be used to break into people's stereos to steal their music, using the "mp3" program. Torovoltos is a notorious hacker, responsible for writing many hacker programs, such as "telnet", which is used by hackers to connect to machines on the internet without using a telephone.

Adequacy and Segfault used to be the big humor sites back in their day. Thankfully the stories are still archived for all to enjoy.

I remember the mild controversy that arose from Adequacy posting a joke article urging the metal band Anthrax to change their name following the 2001 anthrax attacks.

This reminded me of an episode from that '70s show, when Eric's mom was reading a pamphlet called 'is your johnny high'. Had a good laugh, thanks. +1

"A programmer’s greatest enemy isn’t the tools or the boss or the artists or the design or the legacy code or the third party code or the API or the OS. A programmer’s greatest enemy is getting stuck.
Therefore a crucial step to becoming a better programmer is learning how to avoid getting stuck, to recognize when you’re stuck, and to get unstuck." -Jeff Wofford

You should read the "10 Science Facts per day!" thread, as he explained it there. Sorry all for the off-topic.
