why linux?

why is linux used for hacking?
i know a bit about it and i have linux ubuntu 9 installed on my pc.
i want to know the exact reason for it to be called a hacker's tool.

because hackers fear is viruses and you cant get viruses in linux :)

Yes you can, just not viruses compiled to an executable form. I have written quite a few kernel infection modules that go beyond being a virus.

Linux is a more open operating system that allows you complete control over your system rather than dealing with the restrictions put in by commercial operating systems like windows or mac.

2. Is more stable
3. More convenient to use
4. Way more customizable than windows
5. Better tools
6. More flexible than windows

I just use it because I fuckin' like it! Screw windows!

Practically everything you get on Linux is open source. The ability to review, revise, and improve code makes it incredibly popular.

There are viruses for linux,but if you are not root user virus cant damage your system files.
And if you crack wireless network you can put your wireless card in monitor mode on linux :)

That just about sums it up for me, i like my shit to be free and open. If i don't like how something works, i can change it to the way i want.
