Some game recommendations for linux.
« on: August 04, 2013, 02:16:29 pm »
TeamFortress 2

Since a while steam has been ported to linux as most of you know.
TF2 is free to play on steam , good old times.
Runs pretty good , bit unstable but the performance is screaming.
Its been reported that valve got higher frames per second than on windows :)

Savage2

Another game Id like to recommend is Savage2
Its one of those rare games that is actually really good.
Most people will probably not play it when they see the screenshots and think "not my kinda game"
Thats what I thought at first, the unique mixture of FPS/melee and a commander that plays a strategy game is brilliant.
And its fast, really fucking fast, adrenaline like.
This one is also completely free and runs on linux/windows/mac.

Would be nice if others recommend stuff and post the links and a screenshot of the game.
Could be a nice collection of personal recomendations.

Well steam side i have to go with cs/css/csgo(though ive yet to play go...grrr) really happy they have been ported to linux as i plan on going pro again soon as i get a even semi less crappy computer put together. Also for those that are "competitive" i would recommend TFC over TF2 any day. Anyway ive almost always gamed exclusively on windows and i really havent gotten to play any of the latest games in teh past 5 years or so. so im really not a good source of new games to play. but if you want to play them well..... then yeah go with tfc/cs or csgo, great for fundamentals.

Not suprised that could introduce some problems.
There are some parameters you could mess with, also test particle settings.
Tried primusrun ?

vblank_mode=0
You could try setting that before you run primusrun.
Many reports about performance increase, if its a performance issue at all.
Now you mention it I have an arch laptop with similar issues when running savage2.
Thought it had to do something with disk spindown , I have it trottled down pretty agressively.

Dwarf Fortress:

A lot of the games currently showing up on steam are inspired by this gem (i.e. Prison Architect, Towns, Gnomoria), but no game has the same depth.

Btw: Prison Architect is nice too and also works on Linux.

Minecraft. It's like £18 but worth so much more (in my opinion). Easily one of the best purchases I've ever made.
