OpenWhatsapp is a chat client for mobile platforms which uses the WhatsApp service. You can use OpenWhatsapp to communicate with any of your friends who use WhatsApp. This includes group conversations, sharing images, videos, music, contacts and even your locaiton. In other words, whatever WhatsApp does, OpenWhatsapp can do.

OpenWhatsapp is an open source, the other one isn't. I haven't had the time to try it out, but from the description, there seems no obvious difference the end user would notice.

Well since whatsapp is prop software and has its own protocol someone (again) built a program on that protocol.
Its considered illegal by whatsapp itself and people even got their asses dragged to court for it... america ?
Anyway enjoy it while you can until they change to protocol like they did before.
Iirc whatsapp is not free for ios.
