NetworkSims simulator package + Packet Tracer 6.01 portable
« on: November 18, 2013, 07:40:06 pm »
For those that have interest in networking and the CISCO certs, ccna-security, ccsp, ccnp etc. they can test their knowledge and simulate real life network issues, with NetworkSims ProfSIMs simulator package.
From the site: http://networksims.com/
Quote
ProfSIMs Premium contains a complete set of simulators for routers, switches, wireless access points (Cisco Aironet 12xx), PIX/ASA firewalls (Version 6.x, 7.x and 8.x), Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC), Check Point, CUCM, AWS, Wireless ADUs, ASDMs, SDMs, Juniper, and much more.
Router, Switch, Wireless Aironet, PIX/ASA, ASDM, SDM, WLC, Modem, Wireless ADU, AWS, Windows/Linux Host, Juniper, Check Point, and VPN simulators.
Over 4,100 unique Cisco Challenges, and over 51,000 Cisco Configuration Challenge Elements.
Certification areas: CCNA, CCNP ROUTE, CCNP SWITCH, CCNP SECURE (New!), CeH, CISSP, CCSP, CCNA Security, CCNA Wireless, CCNA Voice, CCVP, and much more ... all in a single package.
75,000 test questions (and more added every day).
24 hours of Web-based videos.
Over 350 router labs, 210 switch labs, 160 PIX/ASA labs and 80 Wireless labs.

And of course the Packet Tracer which is the defacto simulator tool by the CISCO Academy, here is  a Portable version, the most recent 6.01.
The Packet Tracer is VMwared and ready to go, in the RouterSim folder there is the NetworkSims demo, first you install the demo and then copy/paste the MainEmulators patch in your installation folder.

I checked both programs in my hi-tech malware analysis lab, pfft..!,  and i didn't noticed any malicious behavior, both seem to be free from viruses, spyware or hobbit sperm, but then again what do i know, so take caution :D .

You will need 7-zip to unzip it. Size is 117 MB.

Nice share, too bad it's only windows... I actually have a linux packettracer package, unfortunately I have the PacketTracer533_Generic_Fedora.tar.gz package, which is fine for archlinux, but slackware requires the PacketTracer533_i386_installer-rpm.bin package to be able to install it.

@Snayler, thanks mate.

@lucid, sorry man, i should mention is only for Win. You can check this for linux and unix platforms,  http://www.csse.uwa.edu.au/cnet3/  Network Simulator. Is free
http://www.csse.uwa.edu.au/cnet3/install.html

cnet enables development of and experimentation with a variety of data-link layer, network layer, and transport layer networking protocols in networks consisting of any combination of wide-area-networking (WAN), local-area-networking (LAN), or wireless-local-area-networking (WLAN) links.

cnet runs on a variety of Linux and UNIX platforms, and on Apple's Mac OS-X 10.4 onwards (Tiger, Leopard, Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion).
cnet does not run on Windows.

*EDIT
lucid take a look at this workaround for your slackware issue, it might help you.

No worries. Thanks for the links, I see no reason why packettracer is the only netsimulator worth looking at. Thanks  ;D

EDIT: I've been to that page already. It requires me to have the PacketTracer533_i386_installer-rpm.bin package...which isn't free. I've looked on my private tracker but the only packettracer packages that exist on there I already have.

packet tracer isn't a very graphics intensive program, this can probably be run in wine.

@geXXos Thank you for the info! I was planning on grabbing CCNA, CCNP later on this year, and your post is MOST helpful! Thank you!

Packet Tracer has new versions available, for both Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows.  All you need is Java.  If you have something other than Ubuntu or Windows, just get a VM going with one of those.  Or, as cyberdrifter said, you could try Wine.

Cisco Packet Tracer 6.2  Cisco Packet Tracer Version 6.2 includes fixes to many community-reported bugs and provides the following enhanced functionality:

  • New devices: Cisco 819 router, Cell Tower, CO server, Sniffer
  • New capability to add devices directly in physical view
  • HTTP server now supports JavaScript and CSS
  • FTP server can manage files used in HTTP server
  • Improved IOS command support[/l][/l][/l][/l]
Here's the tar ball for Linux and the .exe for Windows.  The Linux version has tutorials, the Windows does not.  Feel free to scan then to verify they're clean.  Have fun![/list]
