My Cartoons & Random Crap
« on: March 09, 2014, 12:27:34 pm »
I figured I might as well have a place to showcase my cartoons and whatnot. Most of what you'll see here initially is rather old (at least a year or so, since I haven't bothered uploading anything online lately) but it will be updated as and when I get round to finishing more cartoons/animations. I have a dark sense of humour, so I'll try and restrict what I post to the more tasteful stuff. You may have seen some of my work posted around various other forums, so apologies in advance if this isn't the first time you've seen any of it.

I don't generally tend to draw anything realistic, but a friend of mine was moving away and she wanted me to draw her a picture of Rick Ross, so here's what I ended up with:

Eh, the images are overly large. I'm dubious about posting all of my pictures in a thread. It could end up looking absolutely fugly. For now, I'll just shrink them down so you can click to enlarge. Anyway, I skipped out a lot of detail, especially with his tattoo's and whatnot, but I had absolutely no fun drawing this, as it wasn't in a style I was particularly comfortable with. I just wanted to get it finished as quickly as I could. It could have turned out worse though, and she was happy with is so it works for me.

A request from another user who wanted a Gorilla with a gun. The bomb was extra.

No prizes for guessing my name. I did this for a friend who is American (but I don't hold that against her) and loves the LA Lakers. It's patchy in a few areas, and already I can see pieces I should alter and tinker with, but she was happy with it, so it'll do for me...Although there is a distinct lack of a nose. She is actually very pretty, don't let my lack of skills fool you into thinking otherwise. :P

This was made for a friend who used to play some cutesy Anime-style MMORPG. She wanted me to draw her character from the game, and I actually had quite a bit of fun drawing it. Like most of my drawings, I did intend on doing more work to it, but I never got round to it (surprise).

This is a 'coming soon' splash I did for one of my websites a while back. They were the four characters prominent throughout the comic. Shit gets pretty weird when my imagination is left to its own devices. :P

This is another request from a friend who wanted a snowy, secluded scene. That was pretty much all I got told, so that was all I did. Personally, I'm not happy with it, it's too plain, too blue and has too much space which ideally needs filling, but eh...

I did this purely out of boredom. It doesn't show well, but it's supposed to be an old man who has pissed himself.

This is another request from somebody years ago. Her alias online was "BBBearcat" and she liked pirates. *Shrug* Everybody has to like something, I guess.

This was another request from a user on another forum who went (probably still does go) by the alias of Hawk...Hence the bird-like thing.

Again, another request from somebody I used to talk to years back. The chap on the right is supposed to be him, and we all know the furry little fella on the left.

A little doodle I did out of boredom. I'd love to say I did this in the run-up to Christmas, but I don't think May counts.

It's a Llama...I'm not sure how I can be any more descriptive.

Another one I did a few years back out of boredom. And yeah, I can't draw sheep.

A sketch of an Ogre type person...Thing... Or a self portrait. Whichever floats your boat.

I think this was a request for an avatar. I'm not really sure now, in all honesty.

I was working on this for Halloween, but got sidetracked with other work. The concept was a graveyard with a guy disposing of a body, and a kid dressed up as a ghost saying something witty. I do actually intend on finishing this piece some time soon.

Eh, no idea.

I did this for a work-mate 5 or 6 years ago. He supports Juventus (obviously) and it's 'supposed' to be Del Piero. Looks fuck all like him, but eh, I don't watch Football.

Pointless drawing for somebody who owns a Pizzaria.

A random picture of a douchebag.

And here's one made out of foam for a friends nephew.

Here's one I did in watercolour. It's pointless, but I was trying out new mediums.

My current avatar, following in the same pointless footsteps as most of my other drawings.

I was going to use this as my avatar around the interwebsnet, but I don't think I ever bothered.

A doodle I did half-pissed after owning the pinball machine at the local pub.

An unfinished robot type thing. I can't remember what it was for. I'm assuming it was for myself out of boredom.

Here's a few Youtube videos of me drawing pointless shit. The speed has been altered to save you from boredom.

How did you draw it? Digital art? Or whiping a soft pencil?
I think it is too smooth. I have made the experience that getting rid of whiping when using pencils yields much better results with portraits (but I also know some exceptions from that from deviant art).

Here is an example that didn't use any whiping at all, you can see the rough surface of the paper and the direction of the pencil strokes and i feel it just fits much better than mixing rough lines with soft areas:

I'd agree, it does look overly smooth now that I look back on it. I think it was partially due to lack of technique, and partially due to wanting to just get it finished and move on to something else. I'll have to experiment with different mediums and techniques, instead of just sitting in my comfort zone of cartoons. It's rare I do any drawing on traditional mediums any more. I really should try picking up a pencil and seeing what I can come up with. Most of what I draw is done in ArtRage (it's worth looking into if you're into your graphics. It's a decent alternative to PhotoShop and, in my opinion, has some really useful brushes as standard)  using a cheap and cheerful graphics tablet, which I'm eventually going to replace with a sexy Wacom when I can justify forking out for one.

The image you posted does look very nicely done. The detail in the hair is commendable and the cardigan looks pretty fucking amazing. I often find myself in awe when browsing through Deviant. There's so much talent there, it's unreal.

Thank you for the comments and criticism, it's appreciated. :)

I can't wait to see more from you.
I haven't done much drawing or painting the last, um, 5 years(?), although I did a lot of it when I was in my teens and even earned some money with portraits. It's probably a bit sad, but I have other priorities.
But nevertheless I like to see stuff like this and it is rare to see something good here (of course, this is no art community).
So, please, more.
And thanks for your comment as well.

I really enjoyed looking at these. It is apperant that this is what you do most of the time.
Seeing the sketch of that Ogre and comparing it to the others it seems that this has more detail than your colored art. I can imagine that it would look great if the others had that level of detail as well.
I like the gorilla, especially the coloring. The smoke looked like his hair on first sight, like he has braids around his head.
