Amd build your opinion
« on: April 21, 2014, 09:51:55 am »
Plan to build a AMD based system . The parts currently I have is
AMD fx 8350
Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Seasonic 520W Power Supply PSU
Sapphire Radeon r9 270x 4gb graphic card
Seagate 7200rpm 1Tb
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 76.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Patriot Viper Xtreme 8GB Desktop Memory Module - DDR3, 1600MHz 1 x 8gb
Corsair carbide 200R case

The purpose of the buid is for playing next gen games like bf 4, cod ghost, nfs rivals etc at max settings daily two hours and photo editing, using blender and 3ds max.

The above specs is ok or I need to changing anything?, going with 1x8gb is good or 2x4gb is good

Sorry if I posted in wrong section

This seems pretty good.
The only thing I would change in that is the amount of RAM go for 16 gb if your thinking about gaming. It will just keep you being able to play the most up to date games for the longest amount of time.

Also keep in mind that its not the amount of memory in graphics card that determines the speed. Its the numbers of processors (your one has 1280 stream processors) and the memory interface ( your one is 256bit this is good). I think you should go for something with more stream processors if you really want exceptional gaming performance.

Oh and on a side note I've heard of Seagate drives having a firmware bug where they sometimes just lock up and stop working... So if you can you might want to change to something else but it should be fine.

If I have any of this wrong please someone correct  :D

Being a AMD fanboy my suggestions are as follows:

With your current listed specs, your biggest bottleneck is going to be your hard drive. I would suggest getting 2 500gb hard drives to run RAID 0 or a SSD for your OS, 1tb+ drives are better for data storage. Next I have a personal preferance for nVidia graphics cards. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and I'm not saying an nVidia card is going to be better than an ATI card. I just like cuda/sli better. Depending on how long you want to be gaming for, I would even recommend dual graphics cards (GTX 760 is what I'd suggest). Next whatever you do with the RAM go dual channel. I would suggest either 2x8 or 4x4 to get that 16gb (go to 32gb if you can swing it) also if you're gaming go with the ASUS Crosshair V mobo. Lastly be sure to get a modular power supply and you may want a little more than 520W, I'd suggest something more like 700W-1000W, but I highly recommend it to be modular. Lastly, not sure why you need 2 cases.

Don't forget if you're gaming, do not skip out on the mouse and keyboard. I like the Razer Oroborus set, but I personally have a razer naga (5 finger discount at Walmart) and I'm not sure which keyboard... pretty much though you can't go wrong with a razer one.

Hope that helps, just keep in mind that these are just suggestions and I have no idea what price range you're looking at.

This:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=20-145-345
is probably the most solid memory in the 4gb/ddr3 range ever produced, and its a damn good price. id advise picking up two sets. ( i still feel unless you do a lot of rendering anything over 16gb of memory is not really necessary, though mroe than 8 is advised for current games.)

The PSU is decent, but id suggest upping the wattage to 650-750, both for future expansion purposes as well as helping to keep the psu from being under a heavy load.

will echo those above me in recommending to also get a SSD, load OS/games to it, it will greatly reduce load times.

I have always been on of those Intel people.
That is mainly because I know linux just runs better on it than on AMD.
As for power consumption, the speedstepping is really great, not sure how this is on AMD these days.

Yes but if you are already spending 1500usd then why not go all out and get 32gb. Fuck it right?

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus 76.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
Just want to warn you that the 212 is a good cooler but is a pain in the arse to install. Remember to screw the screws in a little bit at a time in an X pattern.

Seasonic 520W Power Supply PSU
I'd get a (650|750)W PSU instead just in case.

Seagate 7200rpm 1Tb
Who Makes the Most Reliable Hard Drives
TL;DR get a WD or Hitachi HDD.

Corsair carbide 200R case
I have the 400R and can say that it isn't that good, but can't speak for the 200R. I think the Fractal Design Define R4 might be a good alternative, but the door and noise proof padding might put you off.
