Unmotivated
« on: May 16, 2014, 09:01:58 pm »
I think it's been about two weeks now, maybe even more. I am so unmotivated to do anything. I've barely touched a computer at all the past couple weeks. Even thinking about coding or hacking anything at all sounds completely tedious and uninteresting, and I can't figure out how to pull myself out of it. As soon as I pick up a computer to try and read something or code something or anything like that I just feel bored and depressed.

This blows. I don't want to be bored by hacking, but I am.

Sounds like you need to pick up another hobby. If you've noticed, most hackers don't just tinker with computers. They have various side-passions like homebrewing, music, model trains, or even electronics.

Don't try so hard. Give it a break. It will eventually come back.

I'm in the same sort of slump. If anyways noticed (nahh  ::)) I've not been very active through the past few months. What I've done so far is just learn some more advanced web development (graphics wise) and played my violin to death.

Suppose you and I just need to get out a bit more or something. I don't know what you do but I generally skate somewhere. As Deque said, you gotta just take a break and forget about it for a while.

I have bouts too.

I go from art to hacking to code to hhardware to blah blah blah yoyo's is a new one, then back again.

Idk, I bouncy between a lot of it. One day I'm obsessed with cooking, the next week it's yoyos, the next it's AVRS, the next it's session hijacking my wifes facebook, the next is game dev, the next it's python, the next you get the idea.

I even took a break from EZ for a while cause the interest wasn't there, so did skiddiot, so IS ande (haven't heard from him in a while), so does us all. We all get burnt out, doesn't mean I still don't like pizza (ate it for about a month, really nothing but pizza).

Do something else for a while, if you force yourself to do it, you will hate it. Which is why I am very flighty with jobs. The only thing consistent in my life is smoking cigarettes.

Doing something for prolonged periods of time eventually makes you get bored of it. Meanwhile you can do other things... I don't code all day, I try to span a bit coding and computers over a week, fixing my moped, reading a book, photographing stuff...
You have to get a hobby which is NOT related to technology. May I suggest paper modeling? I've been doing that some few years. Was a really cool hobby :)

Well I already play guitar, so there's that. The thing is I feel like I HAVE been taking it easy. In two weeks I've pretty much played video games, went out with friends and family, and a whole lotta nothing else.

I tend to code (Beginner projects), play steam games, "Hack" (I guess scouting would best fit this). Or I'd play games like untrusted and do challenges on enigma group. And the cycle will just loop over and over again.

Dunno if I'm the best person to comment, but sometimes I feel the same way. There have been times that I've spent MONTHS away from a computer in general, even the piracy and data packratting I mainly do today. I've pretty much lost interest in most hacking with the exception of SE as I use it every day to get what I want. When I was younger it was fun, but I think it was more due to the excitement I had circumvating various protections at school and home. Now I'm an adult its kind of changed. I've tried to dive into so many different languages, Java, C/++, ASM, etc. But only have basic knowledge of PHP and in depth knowledge of batch (not even power shell). Programming has never been my excitement except back when I was a kid and my dad gave me a computer with qbasic and a basic game programming book. I've stayed on EZ through the years to read and help where I can. However I will always love computers.

Sometimes a distraction helps, sometimes you just move on with your life. Just don't forget about your family.

Try gaming. A game that I play consistently every day would be EVE Online. Find a game that just keeps you and you'll never be bored.

Yeah, I enjoy video games. Even video games that don't require very much intellect or problem solving, like, Skyrim for example. In the end though, I will always get bored of video games. At some point my brain just needs to go back to trying to fix things and solve problems.
