hacktivist
« on: June 05, 2014, 10:54:26 am »
If you use a VPN for hacktivist related ventures and the vpn company, claim to keep logs for only 7 days and only have information like IP, times, dates and data volume, what are the chances of the cops tracing the ip addresses?.

can the cops get logs from the isp?, can the ISP see what internet activitiy was done over a VPN?

can data be pulled from IOS 7 if all data was erased through the settings of the ipad?

Many people, institutions and VPNs claim many things doesn't imply they are true. also, why use 1 VPN when you can use proxy chaining??

If you connect to the internet, then your ISP can see everything that is in clear so at least see your IP address.

For the data, i am not sure for tablets and smartphones. If it was a magnetic hard drive the answer would easily be YES. But on flash drive i am not sure if wiping the disk is a necessity.

EDIT:

i just found this great paper on SSD (and Flash drive) wiping. https://www.usenix.org/legacy/events/fast11/tech/full_papers/Wei.pdf
To resume, overwriting the full drive should do the trick but some dergee of rcovery is still possible.

You are so clueless that if you cannot awnser these questions by yourself (general networking concepts in particular) that I seriously question you have enough skill to even do the slightest damage apart from running some questionable and probably backdoored binaries.
Basically , gtfo.

Cops are generally happy when criminals use IOS due to it being amazingly friendly to pull evidence from. It's an apple product after all. And no, erasing it like that won't do jack shit.

How do I find out about proxy chaining?.

the feds never pulled anything from my desktop that had an SSD installed

I am thinking along the lines of SSD setup, with a virtual box, encrypt it, go through vpn & proxies
do this on a throw away 3G mobile broadband connection, spoof the mac addressed, spoof geo location

not use wifi but instead use a usb dongle. encrypt the hard drive and have a hidden partition.

the fact is that I am not in it to hack in to systems I am in it for freedom of speech and in this country freedom of speech is dead, people get arrested for posting their opinions online
one man got 24 months for posting on some train firms twitter account.

I do not have the knowledge the get in to systems or websites, the most I have done is play use ssl stip on kali over my own network to see it dump passwords

once upon a time I used to write virus, but not any more

Actually I don't think UK suppresses freedom of speech. Only if you say shit that is really bad then I would believe it could arrest people, we had few cases in my country about that when people say their stupid opinions.
And if it makes you turn into a "hacktivist" then you should re-think about it. Specially if you said your equipment was seized before, so you most likely on a watch list and this just makes it worse.

Also you Queen has no power whatsoever, she's just there just for traditions that cost too fucking much, but IDGAF since I don't live in UK.

If you're gonna break the law, just use Tor.

What a hugely bad idea. Oh wait, you're a badass, so it's okay to give horrible suggestions like this.

You guys of all people should know that if you are being watched, you are doing something wrong and that there are more then one way to get online without being watched or monitored.

Let us say it this way, unless you are a great hacker (with both its talent and knowledge) you are going to leave "easily visible" traces on whatever devices you are using and systems you are targeting.

From this assumption, you should  do your best to reduce the crumbs you leave. all the solutions you have enumerated are not bad. The more you do, the harder it gets for the "enemy". if you think about clearing the logs and using secure passwords (Pass1234 is not a good one) it would be better.

If the feds didn't pull anything from your SSD, it doesn't imply that they won't be able to do it next time.

Also, in this forum, there is an interesting section on being anonymous on the web. under hacking and security > anonymity

Side note, Do you truly believe in freedom of speech?? I don't believe in freedom of speech, i don't think that human should ever be free to say whatever they want, and saying that your freedom ends at the other freedom is just plain crap (this is simple to prove, as this limit is influenced by many fators such as point of view, history, culture).

blah blah blah...

No actually, what we know is that there is NO WAY of being online without being watched or monitored. All you can do is try to hide who they are watching, yet nevertheless you will be watched. The only way not to be is to unplug your computer, and never connect to the internet again.

Like soulei said, you should just do your best to reduce the crumbs you leave. Aside from unplugging, thats about all you can do.

Holy shit I haven't seen a more full of crap thread in a long time.
"Hacking is at least as much about ideas as about computers and technology. We use our skills to open doors that should never have been shut. We open these doors not only for our own benefit but for the benefit of others, too." - Brian the Hacker
