Breaking into a laptop
« on: June 08, 2014, 11:33:31 pm »
Ok, one of my friends recently passed away and his laptop was given to me. Its a windows 8 ASUS but there is a password on it. I literately have no idea what it could be. I knew how to login as admin and all that stuff in Windows 7 but the game has changed. There isn't a disc drive so I can't burn a password decryptor and I don't want to buy an external one. Anyone can help me because the kids being a d!k from the grave. Ty

Did you try running a live OS from a USB flash drive and mounting the disk yet? There are quite a bit of options from there.

Also, don't forget to post an intro!

You could always use a tool like Kon Boot or Offline NT Password & Registry Editor and mount them on a usb to be able to delete the password of the user so you can log in and change it. Hope this helped :).

Or, if you don't care about the OS and only the data, just boot a live usb/cd of Ubuntu (because it's the most trivial), mount the Windows drive and extract all the data to some other usb/external hard drive. Then reset Windows, or install something over it.

Well if you're trying to break into the laptop simply find a screwdriver and unscrew all screws you find. You'll be inside of it in no time at all.

On a serious note TRK off a USB and use Winpass, however something tells me you're too stupid to know how to boot an ISO off of a USB...

Lol when did "I got something from a friend that I suddenly can't get into" become the new "SWIM"?  ;)

You could do a live boot from USB of Ubuntu/BT5/Kali or you could initiate a "system reset" from the advanced options menu accessible from the login screen( without having to login). However, that will wipe the drive so it's only really feasible if you only want to access the PC as your own.

This is obviously a troll thread. If not, then you're inconceivably autistic if you think you can even begin to do this.

LOL you guys seriously? suggesting to boot shit like Kali or Ubuntu or Ophcracker? when he just needs Hiren's boot CD to boot into mini-winXP and just use one of the many password reset tools available there? everything just takes like 5 minutes (from booting to resetting).

He said he wants to reset it, he didn't say he wants to know what that password is...

I personally like TRK, many options... KonBoot, Password Resetter, Hirens, UBCD, Geek Squad MRI, etc. Any bootable tool that let's you connect to the HIVE will work and take a matter of seconds

OPHCrack and other Stuff just try to BruteForce the Password. This Fails most times.

I am with Kulverstukas, better use some of the "Passwort reset" and just delete the Passwort.

An other way is to activate the inactive Administrator Account.

OP never told us what he needed it for, could be access files [boot live cd, mount, tada] OR get admin level creds to uninstall/whatever s/he wants [kali/some live windows *PE].

Either way, answer has been given already.

Before a couple million more people recommend ophcrack thinking their advice is somehow more sound then someone else's with the same suggestion... use TRK. Done.
