Locating a video source - open discussion
« on: August 17, 2014, 02:17:54 am »
Hey guys,

Only to satisfy my curiosity - a friend of mine received a video in whatsapp linking (distributed video) - at the video there was a man (While his face invisible) raping a little girl.
Now, my friend want to go to the police and make a report on this clip - i know it's almost impossible - but is there any chance to locate the source of the data? considering the chances that the man is actually from my state are tiny, and the video is probably downloaded from darknet from the start. i would like to hear some opinions and optional methods along with the probability of success.

Regards,
Itay

No replies? Okay.

OP this is what you do:

1. delete the video from any electronic device you use for storage
2. don't go to the cops

Reasoning is because if the cops see the video and you're the only one they can prove has it, it'll look bad on you and they can get you for possession of child pornography. The law is fucked that way, obviously.

Hey, thank you for the quick response - that's exactly what i told him, but he insist to report because he think that there is slight of a chance the rapist will be located. I'm searching for ideas and proofs for the impossible locating, what will show him and will prevent from him to do this mistake and report. :)

Anonymously give it to the police in a flash drive bought with cash. Don't touch the drive at all with your bare hands. Use gloves. That's all you can do if you want the police to get the video. Just don't reveal yourself.

Police couldnt care less for a lost flashdrive. I second axon on this. Dont try too hard, just delete it and move on. Leave the rapist hunt to the authorities...

As a former operative, I can tell you hunting pedophiles is not something you take lightly. If you are not sure what to do in this situation, it's best to shred and move on with your life. Otherwise, the police will charge you. Guaranteed.
