OMFG Skids everywhere just orgasm'd!

maybe im too old school but I prefer a personalised/efficient operating system that isnt bloated to the rim with shit.

Most people who are more experienced with security tend to have their own customized OS with their preferred tools but I find security distros are good for people starting out or for carrying around as a live cd. Even noobs need luv <3

Have to comment on this even if the skids and talking about skids is taking over the topic.  :P This parrot os seems to be running little smoother than kali, at least on my shitty laptop. So it might be a good alternative for kali when doing pentest training inside virtualbox.

@Geoff: Though it would probably be better to wipe the slate clean and build your own toolbox like you kind of pointed out, but at least in pentest training i find better to use these security operating systems  which have all the shit inside at start so it's quicker to get your virtual lab up and running. Like Spacecow said noobs need luv too. ;D

So IMO great share OP and +1 for that!

You do that new fag.

No one needs Kali or other OS, install what you need. Some hacking OS will only make you skid, learn what the fuck your doing.

Performance is not up for debate, no matter what you are running as your OS, in the hacking world you still have control on your system, so if Kali is more crap than this other distro it is your fault. *nix is there for you to customize and make your own and tweak and do your own shit. I'm sorry if you haven't learned what hacking really is or what you can do with the knowledge you are supposed to gain from it.

These one click, pre installed crap is for people who have an idea of what they want to do, but are to fucking stupid to learn it. If you can code a MitM in any language of your choice then go ahead, but IF you could do it you would know what crap your trying to install.

How about learn fucking something?? Too many people come here wanting this and that in the binary world, and we point them to the EBook section. Go there and learn something fag. Actually read and do something with your brain....

This is all directed at TheBlackShadow, and partly at Grey-Fox and M1lak0. Stop encouraging stupidity. No one needs a custom OS, not in the *nix world, hasn't anyone on this board even read Cathedral and the Bazaar? Or know what Linus has to say about this shit?

edit: I removed my earlier text in this post what i now afterwards consider as childish whining. Sorry for that. Instead i wanted come back in this topic to say something for techb about this:

Quote

It got me to thinking how i want to do things and i get rid of ubuntu on my "shitty" laptop as i earlier refered to it.

I installed Arch on it and couldn't be happier. Just the feeling when going through arch installation and kind of "building" system piece by piece. Bit different from ubuntu's guided install process.:D

My laptop feels great, considering earlier situation and now i can happily build my system way i want from the beginning.

I know this is kind of off-topic but i think here is something to think about for other newbies that still might read this thread. And for techb if you happend to read this, thank you and shit for 'pushing' me to right direction.:)
Hope this post isn't stupid, i just felt this is something i needed to say

Sorry for the doublepost. :( Mods propably delete this if feeled necessary. Just wanted to bring this topic up if somebody then notices my 'update' in post above this.

I also have one question referring above post. Is there any particular reason why i couldn't/shouldn't use dd to make image of my system and use it  as v.machine inside vbox or should i installed it from a scratch in there too? Trying to get rid of kalis and such also in Vbox use when training pentesting and doing other things.

@techb: That's shit.  >:( You have partial right. Just call me when you can do Pentests in Windows as in BackTrack. I've done Certified Ethical Hacker Cert. so I know very well what's the power of backtrack and other linux distributions (and HACKING in general) . If I'm new here, it doesn't mean I'm noob.  >:(

I think you didn't catch techb's point in here.  It's not different distros and what they include ready that makes linux powerfull. It's the ability to take any distro and modify it the way you want.  That's why kali or BT isn't really more powerfull(security related or otherwise) than any other distro, because they have nothing that you couldn't do with other distros. Kali/BT probably have much things that you don't need and are just useless room takers in your system. That's why more experienced people here(not placing me in this group) most likely prefer to take more pure distros and tweak it in way they want it to be. :)

If i didn't get techb's point, then he can correct what i said.

Lets shut this crap down.
The word backtrack or kali linux makes me shudder, especially in a thread title.
You kids should learn to use linux before bouncing up and down your seat and get boners over all them cool hacking tools.

You're right @Gray-fox. But he wrote down that huge reply only because I said that I'll try Parrot OS :)) . I quit this thread anyway.

I have a basic rule of thumb when it comes to OS of choice: If there is a video teaser, it is not for me.
