Money for video tutorials
« on: September 11, 2014, 03:35:23 pm »
Hey there, I am making video tutorials for one website, and atm they like what I have to offer but I am wondering how much can i charge them for videos? There will be 6 videos a month and Each of them must be longer then 8 minutes. Plus other specification related to resolution... But, how much can I earn there?

I'm assuming there was a prior agreement that you will get paid? right.

I will be paid, just they asked me to make one test video tutorial, as I did. And I sent one, they said it's quite good, only audio should be better. So i changed that and asked how much they are willing to pay me. But I am wondering, how much that could be paid.

Are you sure they will pay you? this sounds like a fraud. What guarantee have they provided to assure the payment once you are done with the videos.

Because I won't do all videos. I do one, they pay, if they don't , I won't continue doing videos. Plus, I have all personal data about them, even known newslatters wrote about them, for writing education tutorials.

Well that's the problem, it's not a price I can just say. I have no idea about that. It does require knowledge of HTML, CSS, jQuery. But , it's not that I am making website, just tutorials. I was thinking about 10 euro per video. And tutorials are not in english, that's kinda problem, you wouldn't understand even if I share it :D

WAAAAY too low ;)
I would suggest a ten fold to begin with, drop in a deal so that if they like pay in advance for the rest of the series they have a discount etc, pin 'm down to something they cant refuse.

You think? But here in my country avarage wedge is around 300 euros. Even less. And this isn't job , like working full time. But I see your point. I will wait to see what they say now. If they offer more, I will try to rise a bit more. since they will probably start with lower price.

If you make good stuff you can ask money for it, by going for a very low price you are also 'not respecting' your own work, we all need to start somewhere but dont get whiped.

You can charge as much as you want (It's your content) I'm not sure what platform you're using, but there are several "IT" programs on Udemy, some running upward of 400 per course.

One more thing . Even dough I should be considered as freelancer , do I have to pay tax ? I mean, if they pay me, transfer money to my bank account. Some day, the country can investigate and see that I was paid and yet evaded tax. But I don't want that to happen . How can I solve this problem?

Well depends, first of all where you live ,how the rules are etc.
In most countries when you earn below a certain amount you don't have to pay taxes but you have to declare it.
You can register yourself as a freelancer and that way you are able to make an invoice.
If you decide to do it out of the books you must be aware that you have no legal standpoint when payment becomes an issue, except for a baseballbat that is.

Most anoying thing is that people don't have enough information about all this. So I did some research and realized that if I want to open company, I'd have to write down what I DO as company. But there is no video making in our country law. There is something quite similar , but I think that's not IT. So, what I can do is ask on more forums and hope for good answers.

But thank you guys also for trying to help. Take cookies in your jar, make them grow, make them be happy.

Well where I live you can register yourself as an independant entity, no clue how to translate that.
Basically you dont have to own a company but you can let yourself be hired and bill the client accordingly.
Just call it IT service or whatever, consultant (technical consultant), doesnt matter some like that will do and sound shiny.
Having this stuff on paper will allow you to easily pickup gigs like these and you are able to show the paperwork to the company which in turn will appear more professional thus increasing the amount of money you can charge.
Charging too little will also make you look like an amateur :)
