Failed to start the X server
« on: September 19, 2014, 10:31:42 am »
So a few months back i installed manjaro xfce to my pc very quickly and easy. Now i bought a new laptop with windows 8.1.. I hate windows 8 so i wanted to install manjaro xfce. Downloaded them, burnt them in a usb with rufus. Booted them, and then i get the error message failed to start the X server(your graphical interface). So i go to terminal to find X11 and i get No such file or directory... What the fuck am i supposed to do ?

Google: "xfce failed to start x server" or something like that and i'm quit sure you find the answer from the first search result. At least there has been solved cases just like yours.

I don't understand how hard googling can be for some people.

i ve been searching like 5 hours straight... i know its a common problem but most people got it by upgrading manjaro... i a installing it for the first time in my computer...Its something to do with the x11 not there..so if anyone has manjaro can he please write me the directory of this file? so i can make a new one with the terminal. Also i think its because my processor is AMD,and many people say there are problem with Manjaro installation and AMD/ATI processors

Please sit down back in your chair, this isnt windows.
You think you are missing a file, you are wrong.
Just post the log file and we might have a suggestion for you, shooting random torpedos is not going to make anyone happy.

This is gonna be harsh, but realistic/constructive criticism.

1. Linux isn't your grammas computer, It's going to require you to man-the-f*ck-up and do your own research. If you need to ask someone how to fix your problems every time you run into one on linux. You're going to be a VERY needy and depressed linux user. In other words, if you aren't smart enough to figure out how to use google effectively, you should probably go back to windows... That's not an insult, it's a hard truth.

2. Hackers aren't people that need to ask others how to solve their problems, They are people who create and/or self-teach themselves solutions to their problems. They are seekers of knowledge that build their own knowledge base, not beggars of it that must be spoonfed.

3. This isn't a linux support forum, if you must ask others for help in linux, I suggest you create an account on one of the many linux support forums that do exist. Like... forum.majaro.com for instance?

4. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=manjaro+xfce+%22failed+to+start+the+X+server%22#
^The answer to your question is in that link. Go find it or realize you aren't worthy of it.

You are going to need to include a lot of information. What kind of computer do you have? What kind of graphics card? Did you install the proper graphics drivers? For example, my system requires that I install xf86-video-intel. Mind you this is on Arch linux.

Also, I've never used Manjaro but it is based off of Arch right? Does that mean that it does NOT come with any X applications? If this is true then did you even install Xorg and it's related utils? Did you properly edit your .xinitrc? You see, there's so many things that could be the issue when you don't give us any particularly useful information.
"Hacking is at least as much about ideas as about computers and technology. We use our skills to open doors that should never have been shut. We open these doors not only for our own benefit but for the benefit of others, too." - Brian the Hacker
