Galaxy S5 tiny storage
« on: October 21, 2014, 03:11:12 am »
So I am getting a new phone soon. I was planning on getting a Galaxy S5, but I read somewhere that they have terrible storage space due to the size of the ROM. Apparently if you get a 16gb, you'll only end up with around 8 or 9GB of space. I'm hoping to get a phone that I can also put all my music on, because I currently use some Zune garbage and that literally requires me to have an entire VM with usb capabilities just so I can load music onto it, because I don't have a Windows computer.

So, anyone have recommendations on Droids to get with plenty of space? Or, am I even correct? I've never owned a smartphone before so I don't know what I 'm doing.

Stay classy San Diego.

I don't know much about the s5 but I would be surprised if it had less than 11 or 12 gigs. I have the s4  and I had 13 gigs on the 16gb phone.

It seems that s5 has 10,7GB usable storage space. http://www.phonearena.com/news/16GB-Samsung-Galaxy-S5-actually-offers-10.7GB-of-usable-storage_id53383

But s5 supports external sdcards up to 64gb size. So if you need space for music and stuff that is quit good amount of space in my opinion. It is really only apps that you need to put in your internal sdcard, because samsung devices doesn't support installing apps in extSdcard(tho some apps can be installed in extSd if you root your device).
Put e.g. taken pictures and such you can save in extSdcard. And ofc. there are also google drive, dropbox etc. that can provide extra space in some cases.

Edit: This might provide some info if you're intrested in large internal storage space. http://www.phonegg.com/top/61-Highest-Internal-Memory

Edit2: I would also advice to look oneplus one as one alternative to s5. It's quality-price ratio seems quit amazing.

You should get a LG G2 like me. Its got the best known processing power and 2GB RAM, snapdragon with a full screen and HD camera on both sides. The G3 is not too much better for what its worth, but it does have better video, so I guess you'd be paying like a bit more for graphics that aren't really that much better to begin with. Its got a 25GB - 32GB SD out of the box. Just another option. Plus mine came with 3 months of free Spotify. Which I can argue is better than keeping music on your device.

That definitely sounds rather nice. I'll look into it.

Why do you want a smartphone? I had my share of smartphones and came to a conclusion that nothing can replace battery life of a dumbphone. Want music? get an MP3 player. I'm rocking Nokia C2-01 and Sansa clip+. Fuck all of those galaxies.

Partially because I spend a lot of time at work, and I don't like that it takes away from my learning. So I want to be able to browse the internet, read PDFs, read forum tuts and other garbage, etc. Also, I have a Zune, but it's an unbelievable pain in the ass to get music on it since I don't have a Windows computer. Fuck you microsoft.

Anyway, it's free for me to get one because I have an upgrade or whatever. So instead of buying a new MP3 player, I'd rather get a free smartphone that can do a bunch of useful shit, and also hold all(or at least a bunch) of my music.

Most people have just switched to using cloud storage anyways for music so that should be a consideration. It would improve performance too not being bogged down from 50gb of FLAC.
