I finally did it! [A celebratory post about switching to Arch]
« on: December 22, 2014, 05:41:50 am »
Well I've finally done it. I've switched over to Arch in full on my laptop. I'm ecstatic, but considering no one I know in real life would have a clue what I'm talking about, I thought I'd share it here. Making the switch was actually one of my New Year's resolutions, so getting started on those early feels good too.

So much excitement!

Nice. I really enjoyed arch until one day it up and shat itself on me. Might turn back to it one day.

Lol. The initial set up required a little more finessing than when I installed it as a VM to test it out, but I'm loving it so far. Not too worried about breaking it, but worst case scenario I'll get to learn from my mistakes and I can just do a fresh install again in about 20 minutes. No biggie.

Yeah my crappout occurred a good 6/8 months after installation, so I was already commited. Still don't know what happened to bork it all to hell, and keep in mind I was fixing the occasional kernel related issues, so Im not unfamiliar in troubleshooting some complex issues on it.

Ill just blame it on the phase of the moon.

Am I the only one around here who has never had any issues other than an occasional driver problem? Even with all the updates,  nothing wrong.

Me neither , not much apart from the common issues with libs etc but this is a linux issue in general.
Never udate before reading the news, it just works.

Haha. Nah I've never stored much of anything locally on my laptop anyways. Anything pertinent just stays on a flash drive. So less brave, and more that I just have nothing to lose.

INB4 I make a topic 6-8 month from now asking if anyone has any idea how to fix my boned OS. lol

I have been using Arch for a while now. Initially it shit me how things kept breaking, when I gained more experience and knowledge I quickly realised It was the operator more than the machine lol. Haven't had a problem in a long time now.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

Nice congrats :P I like Arch ^^
However our distro broke itself one faithful day when we updated it, there was some bug in pacman which caused it to crash mid-update. It should be fixed now though. It essentially fucked the server over and we had to recover data by booting from a diff disk  :o . We use Debian for now  :-\
But Arch is one of my favs ^^
