IE officially coming to an end?
« on: December 30, 2014, 03:48:57 pm »
Internet Explorer, the default browser, commonly described as shit slow, is expected to be replaced in Windows 10, by Spartan.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2863878/microsofts-reported-spartan-browser-will-be-lighter-more-flexible-than-internet-explorer.html

My expectations:
Fuck it. It took them years to make a browser they think is good, so I don't really expect anything magical out of this. Windows Users? What do you think?

It's surprising that they would change their flagship browser, even just out of tradition. I would think they'd want to revamp IE... but I guess a revamp doesn't fix the years of poor reputation it's had. Far easier for them to market a new browser, especially with a catchy, strong name.

It was my understanding that Spartan was meant to replace Trident as the rendering engine but that the IE name would remain the same.  It would indeed be interesting if they changed the name.  Perhaps they intend to avoid the stigma that IE has become by replacing it.  I still seriously doubt it'll be much better and I, for one, would still not feel safe using it.

They had failed many times with the IE and I doubt this to be any better, specially that it'll use the same god damn Trident rendering engine as IE use, so what does that say about Spartan? it's gonna be as awful as IE... and who dafuq came with this browser name lol. I can now imagine their usage tutorial, like the one that pops up on Win8 when you first log on - "This is a Spartan" :D
Talking about Win10, did they just have to release a new Operating system just to fix that fucking start button? I swear MS bakes OS's now like muffins to fix one thing.

I doubt Microsoft will ever ditch Internet Explorer on Windows. They have thrown so much money into it's development and it's code has heavily matured over the years. I see Internet Explorer slowly being integrated into the Windows design, much like explorer.exe

Microsoft will either force users upon using Internet Explorer. In the sense that the branding of Internet Explorer is removed and it just becomes 'The' Internet browser for Windows users.

OR

Microsoft will scrap development of an Internet browser all together and rely on Mozilla and Google to do all the work for them.

This is heavily opinionated and should probably be ignored.

Monopoly giant like MS would never embed other vendor software into their proprietary OS. That's why they made IE and made Bing which is default search engine on IE.

Fair point, I didn't intend it to mean they would ship Windows with another browser. If anything they may even buy off a developer's browser. These are only suggestions that I cant back up.

IE is too rooted in Windows to ever go. As rooted as the explorer.exe, trust me it can never go. They can rebrand it all they want. Works good for us cos it still exposes good exfiltration avenues.
If you can't explain it to a 6 year old, you don't understand it yourself.
