Is the WIFI PINEAPPLE MARK V worth it?
« on: June 02, 2015, 02:45:58 am »
Does anyone have it? Any experience with it? It costs a lot, so incase I would get it I need to know if it's worth it.

I am familier with it that has some vulnerabilities that has been exploited, like the one on some hacker conference.

But I wouldn't be using it at hacker conventions, I'd be using it at less security areas where it isn't taken into too much consideration, just to exploit some security for the hell of it.

Is it worth it? Hell no. Is it fun anyways? Hell yea. Is it pretty? Fuck yea. Will it make you a l33t h4x0r? No. But fuck it. If you want it get it, if you're worried about cost don't get it. None of hak5 tools are worth the price. However they are intuitive and fun to play with. I got a rubber ducky and I'm having fun of it, but I'll be the first to tell you its not worth the price.

Yep, isn't it based on pre-made scripts? Which means I could use a laptop for approx. %90 of everything?

You can use a laptop or a raspi for 100% of it. Techb would be the certified grand master of hardware hacks, althout I wouldn't recommend pming him about it. Best hop on irc, you'll be helped a lot quicker

Maybe. I already have a network adapter that supports packet injection, so I might just stay with my laptopt, I might purchase it in the future, if necessary.

Ultimately the choice is yours to make. From a professional perspective, WiFi Pineapple really offers no legitimate use. All of the alleged benefits are a matter of convenience at best. There is nothing that "custom hardware and scripts"  can do for you that you already can't do on your own and for free. If anything, this may deprive you of the actually experience and knowledge needed to perform these tasks on your own.

My advice would be, if you have a legitimate interest in the subject, don't do yourself the disservice. If you however, have any other motives  or don't want to learn the fundamentals than this would be the right choice.

No legitimate professional use?

But you can be like this COFFEE-SHOP COMMANDO who used a pineapple to steal all the peoples' creds and then went to a news station about it!

Seriously though, pineapple is good for magic tracks, that's about it. I think there's potential to do some privacy hacking regarding the SSID's beaconing out (do it on the city bus or on the train or mall), then try to establish relationships between MAC addresses reporting in.

But that sounds like a lot of work.

looks cool, i wouldnt recommend it either though, deffinatly not worth 100 bucks.. you better off getting a good NIC and do it yourself, you learn so much more that way and i would say its more fun that way too than just using someones hardware and scripts to do everything for you..
just my opinion, if you get it let us know how you like it...

I've had the mark v for 6 months or so. It's really fun to do basic wireless attacks and credential jacking, but it's probably not worth $100. Also, mine won't hold a connection to a network for shit.

Haha then not using it is definitely a good idea. The alfa is a great addition for the pineapple
