Ideas on "What to do first"
« on: July 07, 2015, 02:17:39 am »
After searching here, google, and messing around on my own I guess im confused as to what you all may suggest I start on first. I have a machine setup to dual boot windows 7 pro and backbox along with metasploit installed.

I started out by trying to crack local SSIDs that are using wpa2/psk with aircrack-ng and was unsuccesssful....

Perhaps you all can offer a better ideas as to where I should start...or what to "do first" to ease into things.

If it helps im interested in cracking passwords (much like I was attempting to with the WPA/WPA2 PSK crack), also interested in capturing data that goes over networks, etc...nothing really in particular...but I feel like I need better guidance as far as where to start.

thanks in advance for your help

Cracking APs is a good place to start with hacking. Start with WEP before you try WPA/2. Attacking WPA is much more complicated and requires more steps than WEP. However, you must first learn about the different parts of wireless networking such as authentication, encryption, and the transfer of traffic to be effective at anything related to hacking. To start with hacking, you might want to download vmware and test various operating systems(LINUX). You might also want to look into Network Security Monitoring to help you with capturing data.

If you really need better guidance than what you can find in the stickies here then you are in the wrong place. If you read the stickies you would know not to ask such questions.

Here is a free course on WIFI http://www.securitytube.net/groups?operation=view&groupId=9
Learn more than just trying to get the password..

If you like network hacking and cracking passwords do some VMs . You can do them one at a time or set them up as a small network to practice with.. At your level i would start with the  De-Ice VMs  ..

Sure.

How about change your mindset ? If cracking a local Wireless network (That i'm guessing is not yours ), is the first thing that you can fathom in terms of today's technology, and your interests, then you need to change your mindset my friend.

I'm not in the flaming business by any means, but man try to focus on making things instead of breaking them. If that doesn't interest you, perhaps you're in the wrong place.

How about reading the stickies, for starters.

This wouldn't hurt either:

i like that, very well written.. if only people would read that before posting a question, sadly most dont even take time to read the rules and stickies...  sorry for the non-related post, this question been answered many times anyways..
