Career
« on: July 12, 2015, 06:03:47 pm »
I may sound like a noob, but I am quite sorry for that. My question is, how do I become a good Cyber-security Researcher and what are the degrees I would be requiring after completing my B.Tech ? I have been personally dedicating time on learning how to code (C, C++, C#, Python and Assembly Language Ofcourse !!) and in my final year I plan to cover concepts on Operating Systems, Networking and stuff.....And is it okay if I start my career as a developer ?? .Please help me out guys, your responses are most welcome....
P.S :: Googled a lot but I am still confused :(

Yes, learning how operating systems work and networking is perfectly fine,
learn Linux/Unx, but learn, stop Googling, it's a time waste and you'll find nothing, instead do things, ask questions on specific problems, solve problems.
Don't try to be an expert right away, that will get you nowhere. There's no golden bullet, only hard work will get you to the top.

Stop googling ?

Not sure I agree with that one. Google is the nectar of the God's for me. Basically from my experience, no matter what the pedigree it's very difficult to just jump into a cyber security career. I'm currently pursuing a cyber security degree and working as a tech for a disaster recover center and making pretty decent money. I highly recommend that you keep googling, and start narrowing your topics down on certain things you will spend time on to avoid overload and confusion .

Jump on the irc, run Linux and start coding . As for the school thing, definitely major in cyber security or computer science / information systems if available. To this day no matter what technology has changed, I highly recommend you go to this website and read the articles this great hacker has produced over the years .

Don't get me wrong,
I agree Google is a very useful tool, but you need to know the limits.
Many people tend to spend their time to search a 'golden bullet' and never get to doing things.
Finding a good starting point of course is very helping if not primordial. But once you get one, do things, don't waste time asking and searching a more convenient way to learn,
that's what I meant.

He already has a starting point:
I plan to cover concepts on Operating Systems, Networking and stuff....

But he still searches instead of starting to learn:
Googled a lot but I am still confused :(

@OP:
Install Linux, start learning about networking, and the rest will come itself.
Also, make sure to check the first link in my first post, it may very well introduce you to these subjects. Especially Linux, networking and penetration testing.
