OSCP PWK review
« on: August 24, 2015, 04:24:32 am »
I just thought I would share an awesome review I found the PWK OSCP. Though it was nearly two years ago it is a very good review on what to expect and how the course is formatted. I am currently in the class and there have been some changes but not much.

The course is $800 . Unless you want more lab time then it goes up ..  The amount of lab time needed i would say depends on the skill level you are at . you could add more lab time if you need..

The course is hands on with limited info in the course material. They want you to try harder and figure things out yourself. But if you have trouble they will help.

There are 4 different networks ,Student , IT , Dev and Admin

Student machines about 40
IT  machines 6
Dev machines 6
Admin  machines 4  , also the end goal if you can make it .

Most machines have multiple ways to exploit them. They vary from easy to hard " Depending on your skill lvl "

Here is the syllabus

Hope this helps.

Although $800 is a bit too much for my wallet, I think it could be a good investment and really helpful in finding myself a nice job in the area! Do you guys know anything about the academic recognition of this course?

Dude 800$ is nothing, compared to the amount of knowledge you will learn in the course, plus practice also. Think about the ability to learn via hands on methods. In relation to academic it is not recognized by them yet. Academy is more memorize as much as you can throw up on the test paper. This mainly however depends on the individual and the university that you go too.

University is mainly theory this is practical. I believe that the two go hand in hand. They back them self's up to certain degree

I agree $800 is steep. similarly to the course you can create an in home test lab environment, which the course recommends you do anyways and you can grab the PDF from EZ

Here is a link to a cool lab setup.

ISC2 will award 40 CPE credits for completing this course.
The code is strong with this one.

If you are looking at the InfoSec career field the OSCP cert bumps you to the front of the line. I am speaking from experience.

As mentioned setup your own lab and practice. Save up the cash do OSCP labs as a refresher and to see if you missed anything and take the exam.

It is the best exam out there currently InfoSec wise at least.
