Has evilzone.org ever had a known hack?
« on: September 25, 2015, 01:58:01 am »
Title.

And before you say of course not, it's a hacking forum, I know of another forum that saved their passwords in plain text. Being able to hack doesn't necessarily mean being able to secure your own web server.

Well EvilZone has a rich and vibrant history including leaks, but there is one hack of EvilZone that wasn't just some lame DDoS attack. FYI the passwords are hashed and salted several times and no plain text, anyways back maybe 5 years or so EvilZone was hacked.

At the time Odin was in control of EvilZone and the EvilZone.org domain name. This was a crazy time for EvilZone and someone stepped up and took control. This was none other than our current owner Ande! Yup, the current staff took EvilZone out of the clutches of Odin and made it his. This is really the only hack worth mentioning.

Great, that's good to know. Five years is a long time.

I have a few questions though. You guys clearly log I.P. addresses (as seen in the bottom right corner of every one of my posts). This is somewhat concerning.

Along with that, I get a popup every time I edit or try to reply to a post saying "This data is being sent over an insecure connection". Is that an error or did you guys just skip configuring encryption for posts?

SMF logs IP addresses by default, if you're concerned about it, don't visit this forum or use a proxy, whichever works for you.
As for secure connection, we have SSL and we are forcing to use HTTPS, but we use a self-signed cert, so Firefox or others might say that it's insecure or something.

Additionally, if you are concerned about your privacy, just double down on VPN usage. There are about 100 VPN's that have anonymity in mind.
