Mr Robot - The Hacker Show
« on: January 04, 2016, 02:28:52 am »
Since its first appearence, the show has been manufacturing a lot of addicts around the world;
The Weird Wired Magazine tagged it as The Best Hacking Show Yet;
Even The Guardian surprised us with its article Edward Snowden is a huge fan of the show.

I'm talking about, of course, Mr. Robot.

USA Network presents, Mr.Robot, a psychological thriller that follows Elliot(Rami Malek, “24”), a young programmer, who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and as a vigilante hacker by night. Elliot finds himself at a crossroads when the mysterious leader(Christian Slater,“Adderall Diaries”)of an underground hacker group recruits him to destroy the firm he is paid to protect. Compelled by his personal beliefs, Elliot struggles to resist the chance to take down the multinational CEOs he believes are running(and ruining)the world. From Universal Cable Productions, this contemporary and culturally resonant drama also stars Portia Doubleday (“Her”)and Carly Chaikin(“Suburgatory”). http://schedule.sxsw.com/2015/events/event_FS18121

Well, I really wanted to post my review about Mr. Robot, but my English skills aren't that good, so I gonna just put here random achievements/reasons to watch:

- Audience award winner from SXSW;
- Participant of Tribeca Film Festival;
- On track to be a Modern Classic according to Forbes;
- Pilot episode with 2,6 millions of views;
- Really praised by critics...

And here are some of my sources interesting articles about it:
Wired: MR. ROBOT IS THE BEST HACKING SHOW YET—BUT IT’S NOT PERFECT
theguardian: Mr Robot: 'Edward Snowden is a huge fan of our show'
Uloop: Why You Should Watch Mr. Robot
Forbes: 'Mr. Robot' Review: The Best Show Of The Summer And On Track To Be A Modern Classic
Detailed Information at IMDb

But I know you guys don't have time for that, so keep studying and be happy!

Mr. Robot is overrated in my opinion. Mediocre plot, pretty bad acting, and the cinematography is bleh. Whatever. Who cares if it is realistic, if it is a bad tv show. Also critics mean shit. Look at almost any pixar movie, it is given rave reviews by critics, even though they are okay at best. IMO there will never be a good tv show, because of the format they are forced into. If a tv show is not good it will not survive. However if a tv show is good, it will go on forever until it is destroyed. For example: Soutpark, The Office, Lost, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Dexter etc.

I think you got a kinda Hollywood Niilism. I really don't see this "pretty bad acting" much less "bleh cinematography" you refer. About the plot, ok, each one with yours opinion...

About these Pixar rave reviews... they are considering that what they are reviewing is an animation, cartoon, and "woow its really nice for a cartoon", maybe realy nice for what they propose to do/show/teach. Mostly I think that's the point.

"there will never be a good tv show" and there it is, the niilism, the prejudice. (be careful)

Well, finally, I respect that you don't like the show, but technically, I really think it is well made - and that is what they say... 1 point less for using the Argumentum ad verecundiam hahaha

Anyways, thank you for give your opinion, rly matters for me  ;D

I usually would not be this cynical. But when you decide to post one long post jerking off the show Mr. Robot. It makes me want to tear out your eyes from their sockets. See there is not such a thing as "Hollywood nihilism " it is simply me giving a critical analysis of the Hollywood circlejek. Also pixar sucks dick, and the only reason people like them is because they have the excuse of being children's movies. Also what was that about  thanking me for "expose opinion"? Could you clarify?

Not jerking of, just presenting...
Tear out my eyes? I'm not saying it is perfect, just very good. And I still think It's kind prejudice... The acting and cinematography are good, no reason to tag "pretty bad"/"bleh" on it.

"expose your opinion" SORRY, I'm really embarassed right now, I thought could use it, then I researched and found out that it's not suitable! I meant "give your opinion", again, sorry. (have just edited it)

I enjoyed season 1. What do you think anonymous content is all about?

Damn Anonymous content produced a lot of Charlie Kauman(My favorite Director). I still however do not think a tv show can ever be good, or as good as a movie, because of how much time needs to be filled. For example a movie will be at most 4 hours, Mr. Robot's first season is 7 hours and 10 minutes. With that many hours to fill for one season, the show has to fill time some how. Also with a tv show, you see a lot of writers writing a season at a time, this can create plot holes, or inconsistencies between characters. Not to mention how a tv show often loses writers and actors due to commitments or other gigs, forcing the characters to be killed off prematurely.
Whatever. I just had that thought after reading through my comment again. To be honest I have watched a lot of tv shows, and movies. I just have not seen a single good tv show, that does not use a framework or cliche style. What I mean by that is how in Southpark or Star Trek,two shows I enjoy, they have a set structure, every episode the town in southpark and the crew in star trek, go experience a problem. And by the end of the episode the fix the problem. This does not allow for much character devolopment, or advanced plot. Though I have to admit they are both tv shows I enjoy, just not what I would consider good tv. I would rather watch a movie to be honest.

I think the "character development" is the best thing TV shows can offer. >And many movies can't adapt realistic drama due the plot time (like action movies - my wife just died, fuck it; i dont need to suffer, just kill some guys...). Moreover, books adapted movies are often victims of the "bad adapted" thing. Why? Cause they don't have time space to explore those psychologic development with its characters.
I'm not saying movies are doomed to be bad, but, in general, they have more plots than the realistic drama could support.

The first season has been over for quite sometime now and I could swear that we already have  threads about this show from around the time the show actually aired.

All in all I liked the show. Likely the best depiction of InfoSec we have had in a movie/tv show!

just my 2C

I just recently finished the first season. The beginning of the season was pretty awesome, then it got kinda stale about half way through, but eventually they pulled it back together and made the final episode pretty good. All-in-all, I give it like a 7/10. I don't feel like it's one of those series that I would watch again, but I would definitely recommend it to a bored friend if they were looking for something to watch. Overall, the hacking was relatively accurate and the show had a pretty high production quality, so kudos to the producers.
