pornhub redirects
« on: January 24, 2016, 06:30:30 pm »
Just out of curiosity, I was monitoring my traffic today...

I went to pornhub.com but saw that at least 30-40 additional request to different porn-related sites were made.
Usually I get redirected once or so from the actual site. This was kinda interesting to me...

1. do all the other request really come from pornhub ?
2. if so, what is the reason behind this ? If it's purely marketing, I don't see the point really - as the end user will only be redirected once, maybe couple of times.
3. or is it only showing the sources of all the adverts and additional content from the site ?

I apologize for using a porn site as an example, but this is the only time I've noticed something like this happening.

I would say it's mostly advertisement. They're usually stuffed with ads, I guess free porn doesn't make them a lot of money :p.

That's a normaly done so in Affiliate Marketing. Some people want to advertise and so pornhub let's them put their ads and banners on their site. Pornhub get's the money for the placement from the person and the advertiser(the person) gets the traffic(very important). Now if the advertiser is a private person and is in some cpa networks and/or other affiliate programs and the banner or ad is connected to it (also google adsense) this person gets money for every new registration,and/or every click,..... that has been made through this link. There is much more to say, just an example. :)

ye, that's what I'd say.. however, it doesn't make much sense. As I said, I am not 'physically' being redirected to all of those sites. The advertised sites might record a visit from me somehow, but the chance of me being a lead customer is 0%, as I don't even see the site.
