Your thoughts on C# and Visual Programming
« on: January 29, 2016, 01:12:14 am »
Hello,
I'm currently trying to decide which next subjects to take for my studies.
What do you think about Visual C#?
Is it useful to take it? How do you think it will develop in the future?

Thank you!

If your school offers C/++ I would take that instead. But, to the pain of most of us, C# is used a lot in industry. You will find most jobs want C# and or Java and things, unless it's web dev.

So if C# is the only option for your school, go for it. I would, however, suggest you actually learn it instead of using the visual drag-n-drop shit.

I've actually learned C, C++ and Java, for structured and object-oriented programming, and now I have C# as an option to choose from.
This is the literature that will be used:
- Beginning Visual C#
- Windows Forms Programming in C#
- Programming C# 4.0: Building Windows, Web, and RIA Applications for the .NET 4.0 Framework

I feel like C# is more restricted language, unlike C/C++ and Java.
I don't know if this language is going to last long, so... :D

I also have Internet Technologies as an option, for HTTP protocols, methods, forms, SOAP services, REST services.
Should I go with this on instead? Thinking in how useful it will be for me in the future.

I would go with the IT stuff. If you already know C/++ and Java, you don't really need C#. And if you ever did, you would only need to learn the syntax which shouldn't be an issue if you already know said languages.

So IT would be my pick.

It depends on your interests, but I would pick that Internet Technologies instantly. It would be very useful for you if you want to do basically anything web-related. I'm curious, what's the literature for that course?

For IT, the literature is:
- Beginning ASP.NET 4.5 in C#
- HTML5 Programming for ASP.NET Developers
- Rapid Java Web Development

Also, thank you for your opinions. It helped.
If there's anything that you think I should know about the subjects, please write it here.
Thanks again!

if you want to program back-end with .net go with C# although there are better alternatives. Visual is shit/outdated language.
