It's gets about the same compressions as 7zip or WinRAR, usually slightly better, but it runs a LOT faster. I was testing with various things. Pictures, PDFs, and text were nearly the same size but FreeArc took 1/4 of the time as WinRAR. EXEs took about 3/4 the time as WinRAR but compressed 25% better. Everything was either faster or smaller, it's great.

The only downside is this ugly GTK+ interface

Good find, I wonder how it compares with 7zip on speed though.

Also you might be able to change the GTK theme for the program, I know pidgin uses GTK+ and you can change the interface pretty easily

The theme changers I've used only affect color, not the size of buttons, and the big buttons are what I don't like in GTK. I think I found a theme that tweaks it but I haven't tried it yet.
