Linux or linux?
« on: January 05, 2012, 04:54:24 pm »
I got this handy little net book (That came with windows 7 starter, shoot me now) and was about to download Ubuntu when I remembered Back track. Should I stick with what I know or try back track?
\
How much difference is there really?
Is it possible, or would I even want to run it as a dual boot?

I bought an Asus Eee pc a few months ago and it came with Windows 7 starter too, it only took me a week to get pissed off and throw Ubuntu on it. Do you have past experience with linux or is this your first time? If it is your first time, you should probably just do a dedicated install of Ubuntu so you can learn the ropes.

Its my first day and I'm pissed with starter....
I've used Ubuntu before on a desk top, and was pretty happy with it. I was mostly wondering if I should try Back track or if it would be better to try to find the tools on a system I know. But isnt back track based off ubuntu?

Backtrack isn't meant for regular user usage, it doesn't have a normal user account and if you do create one, some tools won't be working right or not the way they were suppose to.

Atm you can just install Ubuntu, and any tool which is on BT can be installed on Ubuntu, it is Linux :P If you want you can run BT in virtual machine in Ubuntu like virtualbox (that's what I do).

I was thinking about running it as a virtual machine, but how badly would that affect the speed of the net book? Should i just put it on a usb and run it when I want it?

i should say use it as a live usb,   because when u run backtrack virtually you can't do specific sniffing/aircrack jobs on the build-in wifi adapter.
