Thank god America does not run(or at least they think) the world! Nowait, they do...

<Bitch and moan>
Fucking fat stupid Americans cant do anything right. Fucking flush the fat stupid politicians and get some fresh blood into the government. Should be 30-40 years maximum age limit. I'm sorry if this offends any Americans using this board, but if you are here and agree, you are not the Americans I am aiming at.
</Bitch and moan>

EDIT: And also, GO WIKIPEDIA!

If the SOPA act passes, that means the following.
  -No TOR
  -No Torrent
  -No online streaming websites

Technically speaking, the most repressive countries in the world will have more Internet freedom than the USA.  :P

It will get a lot worse than that. Give it a few months and the government will shut down whatever they want for whatever reason which they will call "copyright".

I don't want to turn this into a political debate but you entitled to your opinion. They might have military superiority but that doesn't mean they control the world, remember Somalia in the early 90's and Vietnam in the 70's

It will get a lot worse than that. Give it a few months and the government will shut down whatever they want for whatever reason which they will call "copyright".

Am I the only one who is happy to see this happening, once this act is active they will be transformed from AmeriCAN to AmeriCAN'T
lol  ;D

This is what I mean with my insulting political post :P

If SOPA/PIPA goes active it will be fine for a while. But its like giving a gun to a criminal for decorating his home. He is going to use it for criminal shit sooner or later. Some goes for the US government. Once they have a tool they can manipulate into taking down any site they want, they will use it.

Perhaps the impact will be somewhat limited to the US, maybe it won't, but what makes you think the rest of the governments around the world wont follow in their footsteps?

I'm an American, if i ever ran for an office my  slogan would be : "Because I hate politicians too!"

The problem with our government is that we keep electing the politicians, instead of real honest people. The problem with our laws is that the people making them adjust them in their favor. The problem with the country is we have forgotten that the government is by the people. Not a separate entity that is a ruling class. They are our representatives. Because they are fallible people, i don't trust them anymore than I trust the bagger at Walmart. I'm not handing that person my paycheck or letting them monitor me or tell me what to do. America is forgetting what it was about. Ande is right.

H.R.3261 - Stop Online Piracy Act:
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-h3261/text?version=ih&nid=t0:ih:95

S.968 - PROTECT IP Act of 2011:
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-s968/text?version=rs&nid=t0:rs:250

Read "(2) REASONABLE MEASURES" under "(c) Actions Based on Court Orders" in SEC. 102 of H.R.3261.
Read "(2) REASONABLE MEASURES" under "(d) Required Actions Based on Court Order" in SEC. 3 of S.968.

If you don't want to read "bill language", maybe you should read:
http://blog.reddit.com/2012/01/technical-examination-of-sopa-and.html

..., which says that both bills would:
  • Require U.S. sites and search engines to remove all links to the foreign site.
  • Require U.S. advertising services to no longer serve ads linking to the site, or display ads (e.g. AdSense) on the foreign site.
  • Require U.S. payment networks to cease any transactions between the foreign site and U.S. customers.
  • Require U.S. service providers to block customer access to the foreign site (DNS blacklisting).

Actually, even though I'm an American I completely agree with ande. Senators and Representatives should not be able to have indefinite terms, and they certainly should not have the full-paid retirement packages that they receive for only serving one term. There definitely should be a maximum age limit. Don't get me wrong, there are a few good politicians but they are like drops of water in a desert.

--on topic--
Thankfully, I'm not actually living in America right now, and if it does pass I really won't be affected by it until I move back. As for Wikipedia, I think this tactic would be more effective on a site that everyone uses...like google. I think then, Americans would get with, "the PG...that's program, and it's easy."
