BT5 because ive been using BT since it was called just backtrack. ive always been a slax guy with a little love for my knoppix live cds. When ubuntu came out and bt moved over to that i just kept up. I am a fan of "the right tool for the right job" so if i'm going to edit movies and make music and do art stuff - mac, play games and youtube - windows, do work - linux

I have backtrack5 on my USB that I never used since I installed it I have it because it's one of the systems that I heard of first xD having trouble using Broadcom wifi on my laptop with it, so no internet with backtrack. I would happily test out blackbuntu or Pirate linux (that I never heard of) if they support persistence and broadcom cards (BT supports persistence but you gotta partition and install shit, so meh).

None of them. I don't like these all in one distros. Thats why I'm currently running Arch Linux.
Code: [Select]
python -c "print ''.join(chr(x) for x in [int(oct(39)) + 2, 24 * 2, 313 % 203, 0x31, (2 ** 7) - 6, int('051'), (3 << 6) - 92])"

If I need something quickly BT5 because it includes the ath9k drivers for my wifi's monitor mode.

None of them. I don't like these all in one distros. Thats why I'm currently running Arch Linux.
Otherwise this. If I need something I'll install it, I don't need gigs upon gigs of tools I'll never use.

Honestly the difference between each of them is close to insignificant, as well as between those 3 and any other Linux Distro.
Sure BT5 has a kernel BoF protection that is slightly better than Ubuntu, then again, you can probably just tweak your Ubuntu and have it too, maybe it's just some configuration file with some safe-mode:off.
Bottom line I think the best Distro to have is the one that fits you better. I like the optimization of Slackware, but it has some problems when it comes to recognize external devices in terminal, first you have to check GUI, then it updates the /media/ list (maybe there's a command to update device list, but honestly I kind aquit after that)

The other thing that you can take in consideration is the number of existent applications for each distro and the ones that are portable to other distros. (BT5 and Ubuntu applications are usually(if not all) portable).

With all that said I can tell you I've had some distros:
Ubuntu
Slackware
Arch Linux
Debian
BT5
nUbuntu

Maybe some more?
You have to try them yourself.
Thanks for reading,

What's up with broadcom adapters and having so many compatability problems with everything? I'd rather just have it work with broadcom then have to buy and Alfa....though I guess they aren't that expensive.

That's a really good question that I would like to be answered.
Why Broadcom? what makes that hardware so awesome (or lame?). They have their own programs to operate the cards and shit, they need special drivers and shit...

It's rather frustrating. I'm checking out this page for some info. Maybe other's might find it useful. Then again maybe not.
