Connecting desktop computer to an old TV

Here's the situation. I have a couple of old computers laying and gathering dust in the corner so I thought I could use them as home media centers (an ultimate DVD player).
There's no problem with that and newer TV's that has a VGA input, but my TV is rather old and has RCA instead.
After some googling I see that it's possible, but one website said that it might not work with desktops because of signal conversion someshit someshit...

So would this work? I have additional cables, just need that converter.

I dont think its gonna work.
Those old TVs have no idea what the signal from the PC means, even if it's converted to RCA.

also those cables seem familiar, just like the ones you use the dvd's and dvb's cables on the tv to watch. isn't it the same for desktops? its worth a try, its just $3.

Don't doo it! I bought that same cable and it does not work. I have yet to find a solution.

Well for now I am using a VGA cable and a compatible TV... gonna continue like this until I can't or find a solution for my old TV.

I did this like 12 years ago, I used a converter to go from my PC (desktop) to a pretty old TV (RCA).  I don't remember if I had audio or not but I do remember the quality was kind of crappy, the converter made it fuzzy.

The one I had didn't have as many output options since this was a long time ago.

It was cool though, I put my screen on my TV and then recorded it onto a VHS and played it for my parents, I thought I was sooooooo cool I was about 19 at the time.

I have worked my ass off trying to get an adapter like that working. Your video cards has to support TV output through VGA. The feature used to exist in a lot of NVidia cards but I haven't seen it in any of the software/firmware updates. Apparently it isn't too hard (the output is very close, you can almost see a picture without any changes) but nobody uses it so they don't support it.
