Side note, if you guys are wanting to try this; the exothermic reaction of the polyester resin can get pretty hot. So make sure you buy the appropriate components rated for the higher temps.

Looks like a cool, transparent block of plastic with electronics in it. I assume it functions like some amplifier, but what is it really?
