Hard to say, my guess is you are using an older/incompatible version of OSX. Believe it or not, there are HUUUGE differences between versions/revisions of OS's. You may also have a user-error with installation.

As m0rph said it could be a user error. I would suggest redownloading it. I had the same problem the the browser bundle. Why not instead get the vidalia bundle and install it? If nothing else works I would suggest getting a computer that doesn't look like an ipod

I've never used Tails before. I have the tor browser bundle on my usb so I didn't feel like creating a liveusb just for tor. Give it a try I suppose. Fortunately for you it doesn't matter what operating system you have since its a livecd/usb

No you can't from just a facebook message but if you really want the ip address  of a facebook user just use this.

No, but if you get them to send you an e-mail, their IP will be in the x-originating-IP field within the headers of the e-mail.

Only if the sender uses a client such as Thunderbird and not the web interface.

I'm using  OS X (10.6) and Tor.    I installed the same bundle version and not having any issues, so it does work (I know, not much help).

As recommended, I would verify the DL is good and if not, get it again.   I'm not sure if they provide a MD5 hash.  Which version did you DL.....32 or 64 bit?  Might want to double check you didn't accidently grab the wrong one.

You should be seeing the vidalia icon in the dock.  The browser will not come up until the connection is established with Tor...so it can take a minute or so.

EDIT: maybe i put tails on the flashdrive incorrectly, i downloaded the .iso for it and the went into the terminal and unmounted the flashdrive then i put: cat /Users/Anonymous/Downloads/tails-i386-0.10.2.iso > /dev/disk1 && sync
did i do anything wrong here?

I don't know if it supports Tails but I used to use Linux Live USB creator to create bootable USBs. Unetbootin is also a good one. I think it supports more too. Just download the iso, open up your usb creator of choice and follow along. It should work fine. Although, as I said I have no experience with Tails

EDIT: This should probably be moved to the Anonymity section

if your using a mac you can't boot from a Live USB using Unetbootin Sadly. if you have access to a PC you can change the Boot priority to boot from a USB via the BIOS.

I think he's asking how to create a live USB. Perhaps I'm wrong but I read it that he possibly didn't do it right. Once you do have it correctly then yes you can choose the boot from usb option on startup

EDIT: I forgot OP is using mac. I'm not a mac user but I though Unetbootin works on macs
