IRC POLL for the new ones
« on: April 20, 2012, 11:58:41 am »
Hello new members of evilzone,.

I have a little question for you guys , Y U NO USE IRC???

It is a GREAT way to have a better community experience, and loads of the known members are not even here on the forums but only on the irc (and vice-versa).

So i ask you gently,   GET ON THE FUCKING IRC ALREADY, or to sign my poll or post a reaction with a VALID statement why you may not be on the evil IRC networks.

See you on IRC :)

hmmm... I think my life is little bit fucked up. The equations aren't right. I don't want to talk about that.. BUT I WILL BE 24x7 on IRC ummm let's say after 2-3 months.

Well not exactly 24x7 but maximum time. I need that time for debugging!!!  :)

Irc is for collaboration and discussion in real time. Its like a building with rooms...
Discussions are not happening 24/7 so joining for 1 minute is dumb... you join and leave the client, chat or initiate the chat yourself when you feel like to.... its not a discussion forum where eveyone is required to speek non stop.

So join again and be there, dont leave after 1 minute if no one is talking.

I was just joking :)

I was an IRC junkie back in 1999 I kinda grew out of it, I don't even remember the channels I use to frequent but it was never boring since there were as least a couple hundred people in them.

I use to port scan large channels (1500-3000 users) for trojans (mostly subseven) and whoever was infected I'd message them, let them know they were infected and usually remove the trojan for them :)

I was pretty new to computers back then so I still used windows, I used mIRC as my IRC client with the polaris add on to run file servers and stuff.

I never really think about it. I use irssi for a client on my linux box. I like writing bots though. Bots have taught me a lot code wise. And I learned the raw protocol ASCII so I can connect via telnet from any cmd window. I used to do it at subway all the time. Change the color to 0a and do a /list, my coworkers thought like all Neo from the Matrix lol. Good times.

I'll try and make it a point to get on more often. As with that, is there any particular times people are on and active?

I'm not certain about times, how to say those because of time zone difference :P
But what Factionwars didn't mention is that there are few other channels that are more active than #evilzone - more people talk more often in those and they are #securityoverride and #ircxr

To be honest....I don't like the fact that when I log on it shows myhost at hiderandomnumbers.static.mycity.mystate.myprovider, and since I'm an IRC noob I don't really know how to prevent this.

It can be hidden with a vhost. Come to IRC and talk to one of the admins about it :)

I love IRC. Ive gotten past a few issues (computing related, not psychological) with the help of people on IRC.

Lol but then I'd still have to get on IRC for all you hackers to see where my service provider is located and all that stuff. But ok, should I use #evilzone? Or I guess it would be better to use the ones that you posted.

Thanks btw

Can anything really detrimental be done just through knowing the information available through the IRC? Knowing a general location and ISP doesn't seem to be such a big deal to me... unless you start coupling that information with other little info tidbits.

Exactly, you can easily figure out my general whereabouts immediately once I log into IRC evilzone. Besides, I noticed a few of the members on IRC have their address showing as username@somethinggoofy.somethingelse or username@evilzone.org and thats it. Mine shows my ISP location and name. Which is a giveaway to my general location. I would very much like to change this but try as I may I can't figure it out. Id probably spend a huge amount of time on IRC if not for this one small downside. But I guess I should sign into IRC and ask about vhosts as Kulver said
