Flame - Super-virus
« on: May 30, 2012, 11:01:47 am »
The Flame espionage virus, believed to target Iran, among others, has been identified as the most complex malicious software ever discovered.

Security experts are still dissecting the Flame code, which is many times longer than any other computer virus, but some facts are clear:
Basics
Up to 20MB file (by comparison Stuxnet, which dmaage Iranian uranium centrifuges, is around 500KB)
Infects Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems
Detected in Iran, Russia, Egypt, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Sudan
Espionage capabilities
Taking screenshots
 Covert sound recording
 Intercepting keyboard strokes
 Monitoring network activity
Detects 100 types anti-virus software and conceals its presence
Creates a database to store stolen information
Communicates with command and control servers over encrypted channels

Ifyoufindoutanyothernewsletusknow :D

I don't think so, there's too many politics at play for America to do something like this. I agree with Factionwars, Israel would make much more sense for something like this. But thanks for placing the blame on Americans anyway, it seems that is a usual tactic for when people don't understand something..."This is crazy, so America must have done it!"

There's also this link right here, which also says Iran is blaming Israel. http://www.forbes.com/sites/parmyolson/2012/05/30/3-things-flame-tells-us-about-the-future-of-cyber-warfare/

Nonetheless, Israel and Iran have been fighting a holy war for the last 70 years ever since the Jews took back the holy land. So stop with the anti-americanism unless you have proof to back it up.

If this one was done by the Israelis/Americans (which it's pretty well known stuxnet originated from a partnership between the two) it must have been done by a completely different team from the people who built stuxnet. It's 40 times the size of stuxnet and works in completely different ways. It's almost unheard of for a virus to be this big, usually we want the smallest exe possible.

From what I've read, Flame was around for about 5 years or so before Stuxnet, so yeah :P

Korea and China have no interest in attacking Iran's facilities.

". Another clue: The two viruses seem to have emerged at roughly the same time. Stuxnet has been traced to as early as June 2009 but started circulating more widely in early 2010. Flame apparently started circulating at around the same time although it may have been around as early as 2007, says Wired, noting that Stuxnet is believed to have been written in this same period."
