Help for a noob
« on: June 09, 2012, 11:11:36 pm »
Hi i'm super new to this, hacking always stricked my curiosity and now since it's summer and i have it off i'd love to learn as much as I can.

So can you please tell me what Ì should start off with? Maybe HTML or JavaScripts before jumping into things.

Thanks

Well first you need a basic understand of how everything works, from programs to webapps to the world wide web.
As for programming well, do you want to exploit a linux kernel or vbulletin? it all depends if you wanted to exploit a webapp (I guess you do)
PHP would be good.
If your super serious about this, you need to find some ebooks to suit your needs.

This has been answered many times and the thing is, hacking is such a big topic, you can start off anywhere. As you've stated HTML and JS in your post, I'll take it that you want to look into web hacking, right?

Well if that's the case then you should look at learning HTML and JS and then from there move on to PHP and then from there go into hacking. After getting comfortable with PHP I suggest you look at SQLi; we have a great tutorial here on the forums: http://evilzone.org/tutorials/sql-injection/

Not so much for web hacking but hacking in general, web or anything else.

Hacking in general.....

Well you could learn C you could learn PHP, you could learn about TCP/IP, you could learn how to use Backtrack and related tools you could get yourself a linux/unix and learn to use it. You could learn to obscure yourself and your machine using proxies, vpn, ssh, tor, browser spoofing, you could learn C# or something and create little video game modding apps. You could learn to be like techb and turn a toaster into a robot that cleans your house and alerts you any time your nick is mentioned by anyone at anytime anywhere in the world....

But since you don't seem to know what you want or what you mean by hacking I might recommend Python or C. Python is a user friendly programming language that is great for beginners and despite what many people will say C is just fine if your not retarded. They teach it in high school so it's not only for the 1337est of people. Once you get going with that you will figure out what you want.

As I pointed out, hacking is a large subject and if you don't know where to start I suggest you start with web hacking. I think its the easiest starting point. You can pick up HTML within days, the same with PHP. After messing around with them you can go into SQLi. Once you start playing around with all of this, you'll find out if its for you or not. If not then you can start looking at learning a programming language and go from there.

You could always go the hardware route and rip apart old child toys and other goodies to see how they tick, then try to modify them to do something else.

Here is a great example.

If you want hardware security way, RFID is pretty popular. Credit card skimming, key loggers, car locks, and home security systems just to name a few.
