Making a Computer Useless
« on: July 03, 2012, 09:35:59 pm »
Ive heard of different ways of overloading a computer like destroying the drivers / firmware of the computer but that still isnt enough for me even to somehow change the cpu overheating sensor to malfunction to the extent that the computers internal components would be so overloaded and hot that it would literally melt the components and even though i kno its pretty farfetched but set it on fire hahahah

It is not possible to ignite the CPU without any external flame sources. The PCB board does not burn by itself. Destroying firmware is very unlikely if not impossible.

But if you just want to fry the computer so your mommy can get another is unplug all the fans, external, for CPU and for a GPU. You might need to turn off the overheat protection in the BIOS as well.
Basically that should do it. It will destroy itself by burning out the CPU and the GPU. If the computer is very old then it will be cheaper to buy a new one rather than to fix it.

Btw wrong forum. Moved.

This is the most effective way I could think of.

Or, you could do as Kulverstukas said with the fans. If you don't want to open up the computer, you could try and over-clock the CPU by some ridiculousness amount

Some BIOS'es have the the ability to increase the voltage for some parts. Might be a good (or not so good) idea to increase those by a ridiculous amount :P

LOL, well if you're just trying to make the computer "unusable", rather than destroy it, you could overwrite the BIOS which would make the computer unusable. Hard drive should still be intact though, but the computer itself is pretty much toast.

Best way to make the pc useless is to create a trojan that deletes system files :P. After that, the only way to 'save' the pc is to use its backup Dvd which YOu might not have

This. Just flush the BIOS with binary 0s.
Or just install corrupt firmware or something.

Or you could simply open the box, and hook the motherboard to the mains power socket at your home, bypassing the psu. That would fry everything.

@misternikitas Wrong. That is one of the worst ways as it is OS based and very temporary.

"A programmer’s greatest enemy isn’t the tools or the boss or the artists or the design or the legacy code or the third party code or the API or the OS. A programmer’s greatest enemy is getting stuck.
Therefore a crucial step to becoming a better programmer is learning how to avoid getting stuck, to recognize when you’re stuck, and to get unstuck." -Jeff Wofford

SO there is no way to destroy computer's hardware remotely? like from the virus or sth?

If the pc is your own... and you wish to destroy it to cover your tracks then there are some good ways

No, there is no suck practical way. What they show you in Hollywood movies is utter bullshit, and your MAC isn't made for elite hacking.
@SBizzle: I read that as well, nice bug lol :D but I haven't heard of it being used in viruses...
